Singer Kim Sung-kyu successfully completed the first performance of the musical "Death Note."
Kim Sung-kyu met audiences as L (L) in the musical "Death Note," which was held at 7:30 p.m. on the 14th at the D-Cube Link Art Center in Seoul.
The musical "Death Note," adapted from the Japanese manga of the same name, depicts the breathless battle of wits between genius high school student "Light," who obtains the shinigami's notebook "Death Note" and seeks to realize justice by punishing society's evils, and the master detective "L (L)" who pursues him.
In "Death Note," Kim Sung-kyu played the role of the brilliant detective L (L) with outstanding intelligence and deductive skills. On stage that day, Kim Sung-kyu drew admiration by roaming the stage barefoot with intense smoky makeup, achieving a 100% perfect sync with L (L) as if the character had jumped out of the manga.
Kim Sung-kyu showcased the solid acting he has built through numerous works and the explosive vocal power befitting the main vocalist of K-pop representative group Infinite, completely dominating the stage. He captivated the audience by portraying the multifaceted aspects of L (L)—cool-headed and sharp in insight yet recklessly childlike—through three-dimensional acting.
After successfully finishing the first performance of the musical "Death Note" amid cheers, Kim Sung-kyu said through his agency Billions, "I am happy to have joined 'Death Note,' which I so wanted to be part of, and to have completed the first performance safely. It is a great honor to be able to work with 'Death Note,' and I will strive to be an even more splendid L (L) in the remaining performances. I sincerely thank the audience for their support, and I hope you were happy."
The musical "Death Note," in which Kim Sung-kyu appears, runs at the D-Cube Link Art Center in Seoul through May 10, 2026.
