Chinese film master Jia Zhangke praised the film "The Owner of the World."
On the 15th, the film "The Owner of the World" (director Yoon Ga-eun, provided/distributed by Barunson E&A, produced by Semoshi Co., Ltd., Vol Media) released a recommendation video from director Jia Zhangke.
Yoon Ga-eun's new film "The Owner of the World," counted among this fall's most anticipated releases, received a recommendation containing warm support and backing from the master Jia Zhangke following director Hirokazu Kore-eda. "The Owner of the World" tells the story of Ju-in, an inscrutable 18-year-old high school girl caught between being popular and seeking attention, who, after alone refusing to participate in a schoolwide petition, begins receiving mysterious notes. The film was invited to the Platform competition at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival as the first and only Korean film in that section, and it has been receiving consecutive love calls from major overseas film festivals, sweeping two awards at the 9th Pingyao International Film Festival.
Director Jia Zhangke, a master who has conquered the world's three major film festivals with films such as "Unknown Pleasures," "Still Life," and "The World," said he was honored to introduce Yoon Ga-eun's "The Owner of the World" to Asian audiences for the first time through the Pingyao International Film Festival, which he founded. Jia Zhangke, who said the film elicited strong reactions among young audiences when screened at the festival, added, "'The Owner of the World' was selected as the best work by Pingyao International Film Festival jurors and by audience voting. I sincerely congratulate director Yoon Ga-eun and Korean cinema," congratulating the film for sweeping two awards at Pingyao International Film Festival, the Roberto Rossellini jury prize and the audience award.
