Actor Kim Young-kwang appears on "Radio Star" for the first time to take on a talk show challenge. Despite his characteristically introverted personality, he cheerfully recounts filming stories with senior Lee Young-ae, Kim Nam-gil and colleague Kang Ha-neul, showing a surprising charm.
The MBC "Radio Star" airing tonight (15th) Wednesday night (planned by Kang Young-seon, directed by Hwang Yoon-sang, Byun Da-hee) will feature the "box-office Lupin" special with Kang Ha-neul, Kim Young-kwang, Kang Young-seok and Kang Ji-young.
Kim Young-kwang, who is counted among the entertainment industry's representative introverts, confessed to the nervousness of his first appearance on "Radio Star." But he soon mentioned being from Incheon and naturally joined the "Kim Gura line," bringing laughter. When past variety show filming experiences were brought up, he honestly said, "'Law of the Jungle' was rather comfortable. They didn't make me talk; I only had to use my body," which provoked bursts of laughter.
Kim Young-kwang has recently been active as a prolific actor across genres, building a villain image in successive noirs and genre works. In this regard he said, "In the past, I played a serial killer in 'Somebody,' the second-in-command of a crime organization in 'Yookinjeon' (literally 'The Story of a Villain'), and an arms broker in 'Trigger.' In 'Walking On Thin Ice' I played an art instructor who was also a drug dealer," adding, "I wanted to try various characters regardless of genre."
About behind the scenes of "Trigger," he confessed that the scene where his character referred to himself in the third person was particularly difficult, and he also revealed filming stories with his seniors.
About Lee Young-ae, with whom Kim Young-kwang shared scenes in "Walking On Thin Ice," he said, "On set she talks a lot and is bright. She takes good care of people, sends gifts and brings food," sharing a heartwarming anecdote. From an episode on set with Kim Nam-gil from "Trigger" to filming variety shows together for promotion, he said he felt particularly grateful, raising curiosity about what stories will unfold.
Behind the scenes of the soon-to-be-released movie "First Ride" will also be revealed. He said, "Cha Eun-woo is a source of strength just by being there," describing the atmosphere on set, and added, "It took time to get close with Kang Ha-neul," saying he saw an unexpected side of Kang Ha-neul during overseas filming, sparking curiosity about what happened between the two.
Photos from when Kim Young-kwang was called a "boyfriend meme maker" are revealed, and he also explains what led him to switch from modeling to acting. Standing a tall 190cm, he entered acting through the drama "The World They Live In," and especially rose to fame as the "original rom-com king," completing his romantic sensibility opposite Park Bo-young in the movie "On Your Wedding Day."
