The behind-the-scenes story of the song Naul gave IU on "Salon Drip 2" was revealed, and IU's reaction at the time is being revisited.
On the 14th, a video titled "Brown Eyed Soul's first variety appearance!!! (Not AI) | EP. 110" featuring Brown Eyed Soul (Naul, Youngjun, Jungyup) was uploaded on the "Salon Drip 2" channel.
That day, Naul mentioned that the Naul who gave IU the song had gifted "Goodbye Spring" when she made her comeback in 2021 with her fifth full-length album "LILAC." When it was noted that Yoo Hee-yeol's Sketchbook had also done a guide version and that had been a topic of conversation, Naul revealed the backstory of the song "Goodbye Spring" for IU, saying, "IU personally asked to have a song composed through her agency and came to my studio," and, "Because I was grateful, I decided to give it to her," explaining that he gladly accepted despite not being close.
Earlier, in 2021 IU appeared on KBS2's Yoo Hee-yeol's Sketchbook and, after making her comeback with her fifth full-length album "LILAC," revealed the guide version of the song "Goodbye Spring" that she had received from Naul. At the time Yoo Hee-yeol said, "I saw an article that Naul gave you a gift," wondering what their connection was. IU said, "Actually we had no connection. I visited his studio and asked if he could write one song for me, and he very willingly gave it to me as a gift." She also shared a moving anecdote, saying, "He didn't take any composing fee; he said it was a gift marking the end of his 20s."
IU said of Naul, "He even came to direct during the recording. There he suddenly started singing again, and I realized that's when you use the word 'ecstatic' to describe how it sounds. He demonstrated directly and I felt powerless as a singer — I wondered who I was and where I was," she said, sharing the behind-the-scenes story.
IU said, "At first I said, 'Yes, senior, I understand,' but the cut-off standard was high, and he told me to try again. Later I really felt that if I did it, I would be Naul. I couldn't actually say it, but I couldn't keep up with how ecstatically he sang." Naul's guide version was simply art. IU said, "He sang it roughly in one take, but it was truly perfect; he could have released it as it was on the album," and added, "I don't know if releasing the guide version is a good thing for me," and that video is being revisited.
