Actor Lee Byung-hun unveiled the November cover photo shoot he did with fashion magazine WWD Korea.
This photo spread, themed "the weight and grace of an existence shaped by time," showed Lee Byung-hun revealing restrained dignity and a relaxed atmosphere at the same time, demonstrating his distinctive presence as an irreplaceable actor.
In the ensuing interview, he spoke candidly about his feelings ahead of his 35th anniversary since debut and his attitude toward life. "Even when things are going well, and when they are hard, I tell myself 'it's okay now,'" he said, adding, "I believe people who know how to let go become stronger." He went on to say, "Dignity is not something to show others but the composure and balance that come when you can be proud of yourself," revealing mature thoughts.
Lee Byung-hun also talked about his new film "No Other Choice." He said the work "explores the irony that institutions and systems created by humans can instead strip away humanity," and reflected on his first collaboration with director Park Chan-wook as "a feeling of having appeared in a Park Chan-wook film to my heart's content." In particular, about the scene in which Mansu pulls his tooth, he expressed special affection, calling it "a paradoxical moment in which collapse and liberation, despair and freedom come at the same time."
He cited "innocence" as the value he wants to pass on to his children. "Everyone has a 10-year-old boy inside them. Protecting that innocence is the value that lasts the longest," he said, conveying his philosophy on the creator's freedom and attitude toward life. He also mentioned "the finiteness of time" as a recent theme, saying, "As you get older, you keenly feel that the time given is not abundant. Rather than trying to control everything, letting things flow naturally makes one firmer."
