Actresses Ham Eun-jung and Oh Hyun-kyung have been confirmed as the leads of "The First Man," promising unprecedented acting synergy.
On the 15th, MBC's new daily drama "The First Man" (written by Seo Hyun-joo, directed by Kang Tae-heum) announced the casting of Ham Eun-jung and Oh Hyun-kyung.
"The First Man" is a drama that depicts the deadly confrontation between a woman who lived another person's life for revenge and a woman who stole another person's life for her own desire. Writer Seo Hyun-joo, proven as a master of daily serials with fast-paced writing and high immersion through works such as "The Second Husband" and "The Third Marriage," and director Kang Tae-heum, who has shown sensuous direction alive with a range of emotions, have joined forces, raising expectations for the birth of a well-made drama with a powerful addictiveness that is hard to escape once you start watching.
Meanwhile, Ham Eun-jung and Oh Hyun-kyung have been confirmed to appear as the protagonists leading the story, and the explosive chemistry the two actresses—armed with their respective charms and presence—will show is already drawing attention from prospective viewers.
First, Ham Eun-jung will challenge a shocking acting transformation in her career by taking on two roles. She will play twin sisters Oh Jang-mi and Ma Seo-rin, showcasing three-dimensional acting that toggles between characters who are 180 degrees different. The older twin sister, Oh Jang-mi, is mature and warm beyond her years, cannot tolerate injustice because of her sense of justice, and has a robust survival instinct. She is a spirited "candy" who has exceptional talent in cooking and works various part-time jobs in hopes of opening her own restaurant someday.
On the other hand, the younger twin Ma Seo-rin is the only granddaughter of the Dream Group chairman and an arrogant troublemaker who fears nothing in the world. Seo-rin, who chases dopamine with no goals or hopes, is reckless and satisfied only when she crushes anyone who challenges her. Having built a wide acting spectrum through steady performances in various works, Ham Eun-jung will perfectly portray the diametrically opposed twin characters in "The First Man," signaling a new acting transformation. Although Jang-mi and Seo-rin look identical, they live lives at opposite ends of the spectrum; curiosity mounts about what will bring their fates together and how Ham Eun-jung will differentiate and portray the two characters.
Next, Oh Hyun-kyung will take on the role of Cha Hwa-young, the embodiment of evil, delivering an overwhelming presence. Cha Hwa-young, a former top star, is the epitome of glamorous and elegant beauty. But her inner self is filled with the colossal ambition to seize control of the Dream Group. She is a frightening person who will dive into hellfire without hesitation for her goals, hiding a cold blade behind an elegant smile. Because Oh Hyun-kyung has shown unmatched charisma and deep acting ability in every work, anticipation is soaring for her portrayal of Cha Hwa-young, a dignified yet ferocious ambitious figure and the ultimate villain.
In response, the production team said, "With the casting of the two actresses Ham Eun-jung and Oh Hyun-kyung, the completeness of "The First Man" has been elevated. The synergy created by Oh Hyun-kyung's presence and Ham Eun-jung's wide acting spectrum will exceed expectations," and added, "The fierce confrontation between Cha Hwa-young, who abandoned everything for her desire, and Oh Jang-mi and Ma Seo-rin, who face their reversed destinies, will deliver thrilling catharsis and intense immersion to home viewers through Seo Hyun-joo's gripping script and Kang Tae-heum's delicate direction. We ask for much anticipation and interest."
"The First Man" is scheduled to air following the currently broadcasting "The Woman Who Swallowed the Sun." <
