The possibility that Big Bang's G-Dragon may receive a cultural medal has been raised.
On the 15th, the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) said in an official statement, "We cannot confirm at this time whether G-Dragon will receive a cultural medal at the Popular Culture and Arts Awards."
That day, one outlet reported that G-Dragon would receive a cultural medal at the 16th Popular Culture and Arts Awards. KOCCA, which organizes the ceremony, avoided giving an immediate answer.
The Popular Culture and Arts Awards are a government commendation system established in 2010 to encourage popular culture and arts figures and workers who have contributed to the development of Korea's popular culture and arts. This year marks the 16th ceremony, which is scheduled for the 23rd at the National Theater's Haeoreum Theater.
This would not be G-Dragon's first Popular Culture and Arts Award. He received the Prime Minister's Commendation in 2016.
Furthermore, KOCCA has previously announced that year's Popular Culture and Arts Award recipients in advance to increase public interest in the honors. It is therefore expected that whether G-Dragon will be honored this year will be announced together with other recipients.
