EO Contents Group (EO CONTENT GROUP), one of Korea's leading content producers, and Pokeespie Films (POKEESPIE FILMS), a leading Spanish content producer, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for joint film and TV series production at Pokeespie Films' headquarters in Madrid, Spain. This agreement is particularly meaningful as it is the first MOU between Korean and Spanish production companies, and it is being hailed as a new milestone for the content industries of both countries.
EO Contents Group is a production company that has continued to produce works actively in both TV series and film, showcasing titles such as the drama night has come, which ranked first in the TV series category on Netflix Korea in 2023, and in 2025 alone released the dramas Love Scout, Gyeonwoo and the Fairy and the films The Noisy Mansion and Kangnyeong: Ghost Play.
Pokeespie Films (POKEESPIE FILMS) is a leading Spanish production company led by world-renowned director Álex de la Iglesia and producer Carolina Bang, known for films such as the Spanish film Perfect Stranger, based on the Korean film The Perfect Stranger, Oxford Murders, The Bar, Perfect Crime and Commonwealth, which have won awards including the Venice International Film Festival's Silver Lion and best screenplay, the Brussels Fantastic Film Festival's Golden Raven and audience award, the San Sebastián International Film Festival's best film, and the Goya Award for best film. The company has extended its outstanding reputation in mystery, thriller and crime genres from film to TV series with the 2024 Netflix original drama 1992.
Director Álex de la Iglesia, celebrated as a master of genre films and a popular writer, is a legendary figure in Spanish genre cinema simply by name, and he is a world-class director who has received much love from Korean fans, having held a master class titled Álex DE LA IGLESIA: El Maestro Cineasta Fantastico at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in 2017.
EO Contents Group has presented numerous TV series and film projects that appeal to global audiences, and Pokeespie Films (POKEEPSIE FILMS), as a representative Spanish production company of international note, has built an international reputation through original genre films and drama series, so this joint production collaboration is expected to create a powerful synergy in the global content market. Given that Korea and Spain have each established themselves as cultural content powerhouses representing Asia and Europe in the global media market, this agreement is highly significant because the two companies will combine their creativity and production capabilities to pursue joint projects targeting the global market.
Through this agreement, the two companies will mutually review the project IPs they own, discover various joint projects targeting the global market, and proceed with joint planning and development, working closely together to co-produce TV series and feature films. They have already begun comprehensive co-production discussions for their lineups, starting with Misunderstood and The Well.
Álex de la Iglesia of Pokeespie Films said, "I highly evaluate Korea's production capabilities and stories that have recently been enjoyed by people around the world. I found many of the works produced by EO Contents Group very appealing, and the cooperation between the two companies will become a new form of collaboration between Spain and Korea," expressing his expectations for this collaboration.
EO Contents Group CEO Oh Eun-young said, "The collaboration between EO Contents Group and Pokeespie Films is highly symbolic as the first case of cooperation between leading production companies of the two countries, and it will be an opportunity to further strengthen competitiveness in the global media market," adding, "We will create cross-border flagship works that can achieve major box office success in the global market beyond Korea and Spain."
