Park Yong-woo completely changed the course of the story.
Park Yong-woo plays Jang Tae-gu, the Head of Team of the Gwangnam Police Station narcotics investigation team, in the KBS 2TV weekend miniseries Walking On Thin Ice (directed by Song Hyun-wook, written by Jeon Young-shin), relentlessly pursuing Kang Eun-soo (played by Lee Young-ae) and Lee Kyung (played by Kim Young-kwang) and firmly leading the center of the story.
In the early episodes, Park Yong-woo displayed a sharp intuition, outstanding investigative skills and restrained charisma as the model of a "righteous detective," making his presence known. From tense confrontations with the Phantom organization to psychological warfare directed at Eun-soo and the process of subduing opponents under the sharp gaze of the police, he heightened the drama's tension with an unwavering performance at every moment.
However, beginning with the seventh episode, Tae-gu's shocking true nature was revealed. Outwardly a righteous detective, he was in fact a corrupt insider police officer who leaked information to the Phantom organization and took payment, nicknamed a "money bug." Moreover, after the Phantom was dismantled, he turned into a blackmailer who threatened Eun-soo and Lee Kyung and manipulated the situation using the weaknesses he held, sending chills through viewers. Park Yong-woo's acting, which perfectly portrayed the character's psychological fracture with a cold look at the moment the truth was revealed, an emotionless, cold expression that had lost reason, and a sharp tone in his lines, stunned viewers at home.
In particular, Tae-gu's fall was not a simple desire but a tragedy rooted in misguided paternal love. After his divorce he chose a dark transaction to reclaim the daily life he had lost with his son. Park Yong-woo perfectly depicted the emotional line from love for his son turning into desire and that desire destroying everything with explosive energy and restrained emotion.
Park Yong-woo serves as a central axis that never lets go of the drama's tension, an ironic figure who has degenerated into a corrupt police officer wearing the disguise of justice. Tae-gu is sinking into the swamp of lies and desire he created and is signaling another rampage, and attention is focused on his actions to see what end the choice that began with misguided love will bring.
