(Continuing from interview ②) Actor Kim Woo-bin shared his thoughts on the director change for Genie, Make A Wish.
Kim Woo-bin conducted an interview on the morning of the 13th at a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno District, Seoul. At the event, he talked about the Netflix series Genie, Make A Wish and his recent activities.
Genie, Make A Wish is a stress-free fantasy romantic comedy drama about Genie (played by Kim Woo-bin), the spirit of a lamp whose career was interrupted and who awakens after about a thousand years, meeting the emotionally deficient human Ga-young (played by Suzy) and the three wishes they contend over. Kim Woo-bin delivered a passionate performance in the title role and as the male lead, "Genie."
The production had a rocky start when the main director was changed from director Lee Byung-heon to director Ahn Gil-ho. It drew attention when the director did not attend events ranging from the press conference to interviews, an unusual occurrence.
How did Kim Woo-bin feel about the director change? He said, "Actually, new things keep happening on set. So I didn't feel much discomfort just because the director changed."
But he added, "Still, it was disappointing. I personally have a relationship with the director and we've worked together before. I wish he could have finished this project as well," emphasizing his connection with director Lee Byung-heon, who worked with him on the film Twenty.
He went on to say, "Director Ahn Gil-ho led the production well and guided the atmosphere, so we wrapped up enjoyably with the staff until the end."
About the differences between the two directors, he joked, "They have different faces," then emphasized, "Both are good directors. They care a lot about the staff. I haven't thought much about differences. They are good directors, as far as I remember."
He also said, "I'm doing my job, and people who can't make the schedule simply can't do it. I didn't press them on why they couldn't do it," adding, "It seems the two directors didn't do it out of consideration for each other."
He added, "Actors are very busy. Suzy is filming overseas. I think it's an unavoidable part," and laughed, "The writer sent a text. Not because of this interview, but watching the promotional activities, she said 'Fighting!'"
