In 'Sikgaek Heo Young-man's Baekban Journey' Song Ga-in recalled the difficult years of obscurity.
On the 12th, TV Chosun's 'Sikgaek Heo Young-man's Baekban Journey' (hereinafter 'Baekban Journey') showed Song Ga-in heading to Jindo County, South Jeolla Province, with Heo Young-man.
That day Song Ga-in said she learned pansori but explained what led her to switch to trot. She said, "At that time, the national singing contest came by. I went on and won first place," and explained she debuted as a trot singer two years later.
However, Song Ga-in went through eight years of obscurity. Asked if her life changed dramatically, she said, "No. After I did it, I had a hard time for seven to eight years. That was how the period of obscurity was. Looking at others, there are many who spent 10 to 20 years in obscurity, too," she said.
Song Ga-in recalled that at the beginning of her debut she only had three to four schedules a month and said, "I think it's been about seven to eight years since I started trot, and this field is equally difficult. It's usually no joke. I didn't even have money to buy costumes, so I really bought cheap clothes online and wore them," recalling her obscure years.
She added, "When I was traveling alone I took buses and trains, and because there was no waiting room I changed clothes in the restroom. Experiencing that alone was so hard that I often thought, 'Should I stop?'" she confessed.
Later, Song Ga-in reborn as the goddess of trot after winning the top prize in 'Miss Trot.' Heo Young-man asked, "When you're busy, how many schedules do you have in a month?"
Song Ga-in answered, "There are many days when I can't rest even for a day. When I was at my busiest I couldn't sleep and went from Jindo to Gangwon Province, went to the lodging, washed up, put on makeup again, and started filming from 5 a.m.," surprising listeners.
Heo Young-man said, "Being a singer is not a good job either. It's a 3-D job," and Song Ga-in said, "People say to row while the tide is in, but I don't think that's right; being healthy and happy is more important to me."
She added, "If it were up to my true heart I could do several events a day, but I don't do many because I don't think I could sincerely approach the audience."
Then Heo Young-man asked, "Before you went on 'Tomorrow's Miss Trot,' since it was difficult, didn't you think about becoming a full-time entertainer?" Song Ga-in replied, "I thought about giving up a few times, but that didn't happen. It's what I'm best at and I like it most, so my mind doesn't easily change," she revealed.
She continued, "Then I nurtured that dream. I imagined, 'I will be able to do a dinner show in 10 years,' and a year or two later I did a dinner show and then a concert. It felt like I was dreaming too much."
