(Continued from interview ①.) Actor Kim Woo-bin revealed behind-the-scenes stories related to the various makeups in Genie, Make A Wish.
Kim Woo-bin conducted an interview on the morning of the 13th at a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. At the meeting, he talked about the Netflix series Genie, Make A Wish and his recent activities.
Genie, Make A Wish is a stress-free fantasy romantic comedy drama about a lamp spirit genie (played by Kim Woo-bin) who, awakened after about a thousand years of career interruption, meets the emotionless human Ga-young (played by Suzy) and engages in events over three wishes. Kim Woo-bin passionately played the title role and male lead "Genie."
Matching the fantasy setting of the "lamp spirit" Genie, Kim Woo-bin shows various makeups and style changes. Among them, regarding the long-hair makeup early in the series, Kim Woo-bin joked, "I thought it was extremely long," and said, "but the script had it written, so it was within the scope of what I imagined. Even during the costume fitting before shooting they told me, 'We will make these kinds of clothes.' Because there is physical contact at times, it wasn't awkward on set."
However, he laughed, "But I think people who saw it for the first time were probably taken aback. That wig is heavier than expected. So I rolled it like a snake and put it on my shoulder." He said, "I had my hair long before, so it wasn't very awkward. It's a look I've seen on myself," and added, "Because it's a wig and not my hair, it itched and felt uncomfortable when it touched my face. The feeling was different from when it touched my own hair. If I talk about discomfort, when we filmed in summer it was hot because there was no ventilation, so that was uncomfortable."
He also said, "When he comes to modern times, his appearance is similar to my current look, so it was a little less awkward," and about the part that became a topic as the so-called "Moon Dong-eun style," he said, "I enjoyed it a lot. When it first appeared in the script it was so funny. I thought it was a scene only writer Kim Eun-sook could write," and laughed.
In particular, Kim Woo-bin revealed, "In the original script the 'Moon Dong-eun' scene suddenly had the OST change and Ga-young (Suzy) looked over, and Genie in a bob and Moon Dong-eun outfit was going to clap, then hesitated between the two, and when neither fit, was written to leave. But in the revised draft that scene was gone," which drew surprise.
He said, "So I called the writer to ask why it was removed. The main reason was said to be that they thought I might dislike it, so I told them I was thinking about the lines and they said to do it enthusiastically. I kept watching the famous scene from The Glory and practiced the lines and actions exactly the same. The staff on set also found it amusing. I don't know senior Song Hye-kyo's reaction," and laughed.
