Actor Kim Woo-bin calmly spoke about the pain he endured while battling nasopharyngeal cancer in the past and the realizations he gained from that time.
The YouTube content "Yeojeong Jaehyung," released on the 12th, featured Kim Woo-bin as a guest, where he candidly recounted his story from debut to the present.
Kim Woo-bin recalled the days after debuting in 2008 as a model for Kim Seoryong Homme, when he used to say "I won't become an actor." However, he discovered the appeal of acting later and made his acting debut in 2011 with KBS drama special–White Christmas, and then built his career through School 2013 leading to writer Kim Eun-sook's The Heirs, rising to stardom.
But he also faced trials. Kim Woo-bin was diagnosed in 2017 with the rare cancer nasopharyngeal carcinoma and halted all activities to begin a long battle with the disease. Looking back, he said, "I thought of it as a vacation given by heaven," and laughed, "In the past, if I could sleep three hours, I would exercise for one hour and only sleep two hours, but now I sleep the full three hours."
He also mentioned a project that fell through during his treatment. Kim Woo-bin honestly confessed, "I was going to work with director Choi Dong-hoon on Wiretapping, but I learned I was sick one month after the role was decided. At that time, I had a lot on my mind." MC Jung Jae-hyung comforted him, saying, "That time must have been difficult, but it seems to be the time that made the Kim Woo-bin you are now."
Kim Woo-bin said calmly, "Thanks to that time, only good things remain. The times I rested were gifts to me," and added, "I don't remember the pain. It was too strong. So now it is gone. Only good things remain in my life." He added, "I learned how to love myself, how to love others, and how to return the love I received," which made the moment more moving.
He smiled and said, "I realized how grateful I am for things I took for granted. I am much happier now than I was then, and I am living a time that feels like a gift from heaven."
Meanwhile, Kim Woo-bin recently appears as the protagonist "Jini" in the Netflix series Genie, Make A Wish, meeting viewers.
