Actor Jung Woong-in revealed the anecdote that he debuted on TV thanks to director Jang Hang-jun.
Jung Woong-in appeared on the general programming channel Channel A's Jeolchin To-kyumentary 4-in dining table, which aired on the afternoon of the 13th, and talked with director Jang Hang-jun and Song Seon-mi. Song Seon-mi and Jung Woong-in worked together in the film Two Cops.
On that day, Jung Woong-in recalled about Song Seon-mi, "She was so beautiful. Even seen from afar, when she walked in she was a perfect eight-heads-tall beauty. Her eyes were like crescents. If I were a director, casting actress Seon-mi and watching the monitor would make me fall in love," and added, "But she had a naïve side. To me, it seemed like her original self."
Jang Hang-jun also praised her, saying, "The first time I saw Song Seon-mi was at a drinking gathering with actor Jang Hyun-sung. I thought a person could be this bright and lovable. You could be disappointed when you meet someone in person, but Song Seon-mi was one of the few who was an even better character in real life."
The connection between Jung Woong-in and Jang Hang-jun was special. The two were classmates at Seoul Institute of the Arts; they were not close during school days, but Jung Woong-in's TV debut was thanks to Jang Hang-jun
Jang Woong-in said, "This person made my broadcast debut," and Jang Hang-jun said, "I proposed the drama Cheonilyahwa. There were four leads who alternated as the main role each week. At that time the director was PD Kim Byung-wook. He asked, 'Do you have any juniors or seniors who haven't become famous yet? Let's use them.' The person who immediately came to mind was Jung Woong-in. But he loved the stage and said he wouldn't do media."
Jang Hang-jun explained, "I called Woong-in and told him, 'PD Kim Byung-wook will call you; tell him you won't do it.' We wanted to create a sense of mystery. But when PD Kim Byung-wook met him, he said, 'This guy will really do well. What does he have?'" Afterwards he received offers for the films A Quiet Family and The Foul King, and Jung Woong-in became a star through the dramas Guk-hee and Eun-shil-i.
Jung Woong-in was even called the epitome of a villain for his Min Jun-guk character in the drama Your Voice. Regarding his criteria for choosing villain roles, Jung Woong-in said, "Now I do anything as long as I have a lot of schedule. These days Korean dramas are well made and the directors are younger. It is important for me to follow that young sensibility," and added, "When the kids say they're doing a new drama, they ask, 'Dad, how many people do you kill this time? Bury them? Stab them?' They say, 'Now I'm old enough. Make dad do it,'" which made people laugh.
