Actor Lee Hyun-wook won the excellence in acting award at the 2025 Korea Drama Awards.
Lee Hyun-wook received the honor at the Korea Drama Awards (Korea Drama Awards, hereinafter KDA) held at the Gyeongnam Culture and Arts Center on the 11th for the tvN X TVING original drama "The Queen Who Crowns" (directed by Kim Sang-ho / written by Lee Young-mi / produced by Studio Dragon·JS Pictures) and the TVING original series "Shark: The Storm" (written by Min Ji / directed by Kim Gun / produced by SLL To You Dream Co., Ltd. / provided by TVING).
On the day, Lee Hyun-wook said, "First, thank you for inviting me to this meaningful occasion. Through 'Shark: The Storm' and 'The Queen Who Crowns' I was able to stand here, and I am truly honored to be able to take this opportunity to express my gratitude once again."
He added, "I thank the senior and junior actors, the staff, the directors, the writers, and everyone who worked on these projects. I also want to thank my family, acquaintances and our fans who always support me. I will continue to work hard to meet you with good projects."
Making his first foray into historical drama with "The Queen Who Crowns," Lee Hyun-wook completed a career-defining role by portraying the multifaceted aspects of King Taejong Lee Bang-won that differed from existing interpretations. He was especially praised for portraying the character's inner turmoil, wavering between love and the desire for power, with deep emotional acting.
He also drew attention for vividly portraying the chilling aspects of a character who derives pleasure from others' suffering by playing the ruthless villain Hyun Woo-yong in "Shark: The Storm."
Expectations are rising for Lee Hyun-wook's future moves as he showcases endless acting transformations across diverse genres.
Meanwhile, Lee Hyun-wook will meet global viewers as Lee Do-kyung, an airline first officer and the lover who drags Hee-ju (played by Park Bo-young) into an illegal gold bullion smuggling case, in Disney+'s "Goldland," set to be released in 2026.<
