The widow of the late actor Cho Min-gi, Kim Sun-jin, has stirred debate by appearing on Just Makeup, and the presence of first-generation beauty shop owner Kim Sun-jin is drawing attention.
Recently popular on Coupang Play, the variety show Just Makeup featured Kim Sun-jin as a participant, attracting attention because she is the wife of the late actor Cho Min-gi.
On the show, Kim Sun-jin emphasized her presence not as "Cho Min-gi's wife" but as the head master of the beauty shop where even judge Lee Sa-bae once worked. Coincidentally, Lee Sa-bae also appeared as a judge for Kim Sun-jin. Lee Sa-bae said, "Should I call you '37-year genie'? 'Head master' feels more familiar." Touched by the moment, both Kim Sun-jin and Lee Sa-bae choked up and showed tears.
However, Kim Sun-jin stressed her identity as a "makeup artist." She said, "I'm proud. I may be older, but I want to be a strong older sister," and delivered a powerful "strong sister" makeup look to emphasize that impression. Nevertheless, the wall of time was high, and Kim Sun-jin was eventually eliminated.
In reality, Kim Sun-jin is the head master of a well-known beauty shop centered in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. However, as head master she has long focused on running the shop rather than hands-on makeup work. That contributed to her defeat on Just Makeup. Despite that, her shop still enjoys fame. Comedian Yoo Se-yoon, actors Park Byung-eun and Song Jin-woo, and musical actors Choi Jae-rim and Lee Choong-joo, among others, have been clients of Kim Sun-jin's beauty shop.
Aside from her makeup skills, Kim Sun-jin is suffering from the fallout of her husband Cho Min-gi's past. Kim Sun-jin married the actor Cho Min-gi and they had one son and one daughter. Their marriage, a meeting of a famous actor and a makeup artist, became a topic in the entertainment industry.
However, in 2018 Cho Min-gi was accused of sexually assaulting multiple students while serving as an associate professor in the theater department at Cheongju University. Cho Min-gi initially denied the allegations, but as the victims' #MeToo posts continued, he issued an official apology and promised to cooperate faithfully with the police investigation.
But he was found dead near his home three days before the police investigation. As a result, the probe into the charges against him was closed with no prosecution. Both Cho Min-gi and his family had appeared on various broadcasts and become known to the public, and even seven years after Cho Min-gi's death, criticism continues over unresolved investigations into matters involving his family.
