As fall baseball is in full swing, "first-pitch goddess" Lee Guk-ju raised a soju glass.
On the 12th, Lee Guk-ju posted a photo on her Instagram story with the caption "well fed." In the released photo, she strikes her characteristic cheerful V pose with food and a soju glass in front of her.
Active across variety shows and radio, Lee Guk-ju consistently connects with fans through unpretentious daily posts and warm humor on social media. Fans also expressed vicarious satisfaction at Lee Guk-ju's eating broadcast, wearing pleased smiles.
But baseball fans' reactions(?) were different.
Lee Guk-ju served as the first-pitch thrower at the game between the SK Wyverns and the Hanwha Eagles held at Incheon Munhak Stadium on Oct. 6, 2014. It was an important game ahead of SK's push for the fall playoffs, and when she took the mound she provoked the players by saying, "If you lose today, you have to marry me," which fired up their performance.
In the end, the SK Wyverns won decisively that day. The SK Wyverns are the predecessor of the SSG Landers, who are currently playing the semifinals against the Samsung Lions in the semifinals. So SSG Landers fans are looking back fondly at Lee Guk-ju's fiery first pitch and are hoping for the goddess of victory to be summoned to Incheon once more.
Meanwhile, Lee Guk-ju revealed a new life in Tokyo, Japan, in April. After starting to live alone in a 9-pyeong studio, she said, "I turned 40 and it will be 20 years since my debut next year. I wanted to try something new. I had a vague thought that if I learned Japanese I might be able to do something. I came with the idea of not waiting for work to come, and when there isn't much work and I'm resting, I should try something."
She also said, "Here, I came with the idea of saving money and working hard like when I was a rookie. Even if I fail, it won't ruin my life; I think it will be remembered as a good experience. With that mindset, I don't think it can fail. I think it will inevitably go well. I don't know when that timing will come, but I'm going to try." <
