Singer Noh Sa-yeon on the show 'Sokpuri Show Dongchimi' recounted an anecdote about forcing a magazine that spread a false dating rumor about her to cease publication.
On the Nov. 11 broadcast of MBN's 'Sokpuri Show Dongchimi' (hereafter 'Dongchimi'), Noh Sa-yeon appeared. She greeted her older sister Noh Sa-bong, longtime friend and singer Jeon Young-rok, comedian Lee Hong-ryeol, comedienne Jo Hye-ryun and others.
Jeon Young-rok, who was a hit-maker singer in the 1970s, also did many duets with female singers. Noh Sa-yeon recalled, "Kim Hee-ae, Hye Eun-i, Lee Eun-ha, Yang Soo-kyung, Lee Ji-yeon, Jung Soo-ra, Kim Hye-rim — didn't I sing with them?" Kim Yong-man asked, "Who did you sing with the most?"
Jeon Young-rok said, "It's Yoon Si-nae. When you really match breath, you learn a lot. Yoon Si-nae knows how to come out strong, so you have to come out with her," and added, "Since the 1970s I have done duets with female singers. Back then people said 'matching mouths.' And when doing a duet you watch the other singer's mouth. You have to check breath length and things like that, so you look a lot at the mouth, which is why you 'match mouths' a lot."
Jeon Young-rok said, "The person I most wanted to match mouths with was Noh Sa-yeon," expressing regret. Noh Sa-yeon said, "I'm a different type than the people Jeon Young-rok matched mouths with. Jeon Young-rok only did duets with pretty friends. I actually chased him a lot asking for songs. I'm resentful toward Jeon Young-rok," she said. In response, Jeon Young-rok said, "I'm resentful toward Noh Sa-yeon," adding, "I should give her songs, I should meet her. I should do this and that. But when variety shows appeared, Noh Sa-yeon fell into that. She stopped singing," expressing his disappointment that Noh Sa-yeon became successful as a variety entertainer.
Noh Sa-yeon had a long friendship with Jeon Young-rok. She said, "Walking in Myeong-dong with Jeon Young-rok, he was really popular. He shone. If I had been pretty, there would have been a scandal, but there was none at all," she laughed.
Perhaps because of Noh Sa-yeon's down-to-earth nature, she had almost no scandals. There was only one scandal with comedian Joo Byung-jin. Noh Sa-yeon said, "At that time Joo Byung-jin had huge public attention. So people really wanted our scandal to mean we were dating. One day I was doing radio with Joo Byung-jin and he was very angry," adding, "Joo Byung-jin said, 'Hey! There's a scandal about you and me, right?'"
A very angry Joo Byung-jin went so far as to sue the magazine. Noh Sa-yeon said, "I realized that scandals happen to celebrities too. All women admired Joo Byung-jin, who was a gentleman and the dream of the comedy world. Of course we were friends," she said coolly.
Kim Yong-man asked, "Then what happened to the magazine that was sued?" Noh Sa-yeon replied, "That publisher disappeared. When we do something, we do it," surprising everyone. She added that because of that, a reporter who found out about Imu-song's marriage preparations with her was stopped by the magazine's Director General, who said "Do you know what kind of person Noh Sa-yeon is? She's really scary," preventing the article from coming out, which again surprised everyone.
