'Sadang-gwi' national judo coach Hwang Hee-tae revealed an experience that felt like a live-action version of the movie 'The Outlaws.'
On the afternoon of the 12th, the KBS 2TV variety program 'The boss's ears are donkey ears' aired, and coach Hwang Hee-tae appeared as the new boss.
Coach Hwang Hee-tae is an athlete who won medals at numerous international competitions, including the 2006 Doha Asian Games and the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games judo gold medals. As the national team coach, he also led the team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
On this episode, coach Hwang Hee-tae's training scenes were shown. He trained while colliding with active athletes and showed a more passionate attitude than anyone else, drawing attention. The athletes joked, "Our coach seems to be the national team coach to torment us," eliciting laughter.
After finishing training, coach Hwang Hee-tae repeatedly emphasized, "The world of competition is cold. You have to try to win no matter what. Doing your best is how you respect your opponent. You have to do it to the point of death."
During the following meal, coach Hwang Hee-tae joined the athletes. While eating, coach Hwang asked, "Did you know I was a police officer?" and said, "After retiring, I was a police officer from 2015 to 2019. The police martial arts special recruitment was revived after almost 20 years. I applied because I won many medals at international competitions and had good results, but the competition rate was 10 to 1."
He continued, "As I did that, I wanted to become a detective like Ma Dong-seok, so I also served in the violent crimes unit," and revealed an anecdote: "I've caught criminals a few times, and the most memorable was an arsonist who tried to set fire to a building — the seniors caught him. When he was caught, I could hear a scuffle. He had handcuffs on but was struggling not to get into the police car. I said, 'Sir, I'll put you in,' grabbed his neck and folded him up."
Coach Hwang Hee-tae added, "I was driving the police car, and when we arrived I asked, 'Do you want to be arrested? Do you want to get out?' and he said, 'I'll get out.' The seniors said, 'Hee-tae, we're relieved to have you.'" Jun Hyun-moo reacted in surprise, saying, "The Outlaws isn't exaggerated."
