'Omniscient Interfering View' filled Saturday night with entertainment through chef Jo Seohyung's flavorful day and former wrestler Choi Hong-man's healing life as a "Jeju small-town citizen."
On the 368th episode of MBC entertainment program Omniscient Interfering View, which aired on the 11th, chef Jo Seohyung, who appeared on Netflix's Culinary Class Wars and showed a new world of Korean cuisine, and former wrestler Choi Hong-man's delightful Jeju daily life continued from last week.
Before revealing Jo Seohyung's daily life, the studio drew attention with stories from his past that showed he stood out from the start. Jo Seohyung surprised everyone by saying he earned cooking-related certificates in middle school and swept national local cuisine competitions. He also said he opened a restaurant at 24 and that his restaurant has never once had empty seats, and that even chaebol chairmen had to wait in line, which elicited further amazement.
Next, Jo Seohyung's home, filled in places with tremendous seasonings, numerous cooking tools, and dishes and glasses reminiscent of a restaurant, was revealed for the first time. With a neat kitchen drawing attention, Jo Seohyung said he had even been given a cooking book passed down through generations of a chaebol family, which caught viewers' eyes.
True to manager Park Jeong-hwan's tip that he ate Korean food even while traveling in Europe, Korean food lover Jo Seohyung made bean-sprout rice in a pot for breakfast. He demonstrated the sensibility to make three dishes with one pot along with a tuna seasoned soy sauce that paired well. While she prepared breakfast, the groom-to-be appeared. A romantic anecdote that colored the studio pink was that Jo Seohyung, smitten by the groom-to-be enjoying the meal, offered his hand and flirted, saying, "Would you like to be with me?"
Saying she chooses all ingredients for the restaurant herself, Jo Seohyung headed to Garak Market. After skillfully selecting fresh rockfish and fresh blue crab, she moved to a salted seafood shop where she carefully selected salted seafood for cooking and even opened a heavy salted fish barrel herself, showing charm befitting a "teto woman." In contrast, the manager in charge of accounting said 2,000,000 won was spent on quick delivery, creating a comical emasculation moment and offering a sharp comedic chemistry that added to the viewing pleasure.
Arriving at the newly opened restaurant with fresh ingredients, Jo Seohyung placed orders with staff under the philosophy of "produced that day, sold out that day" and began prep in earnest. As rare ingredients such as flounder, matsutake mushrooms, and a 34kg giant flathead octopus were trimmed by staff, Jo Seohyung also unhesitatingly prepared fresh cod, accelerating preparations for the opening.
The restaurant, after finishing opening preparations, was fully booked with guests from across the country and around the world. Course menus that showcased Jo Seohyung's love of Korean food — octopus sesame oil noodles, Korean beef tartare and chopped small octopus, spicy dried radish greens stew, and pork belly — left food professor Lee Young-ja endlessly impressed and drew praise from customers. The manager also added charming explanations about the dishes to customers, showing moments of his main job. Jo Seohyung's Korean dishes, embodying his firm culinary philosophy, gave customers unforgettable, distinct memories and once again proved his "business genius" side.
Next came part two of "Korean Giant" Choi Hong-man's colorful Jeju life. "If I don't exercise, I can't sleep," Choi Hong-man said as he displayed an overwhelming physique at the gym. Warming up by easily handling exercises from pullups while supporting his 160kg weight to 135kg lat pulldowns, he continued with serious training with the help of two managers.
Choi Hong-man also unleashed behind-the-scenes stories about changing his ideal type, triggering a dopamine rush. He said he was contacted by 10 people after revealing his ideal type and that he is seeing one of them. When Choi Hong-man said, "The woman I'm seeing asked me to correct my preferred height from 168cm to 165cm," the panel said it was a green light and swooned.
Meanwhile, Choi Hong-man transformed into a part-timer at the tangerine farm run by manager Boo Sang-hoon, whose main job is farming. Saying he is learning the work for about three years as preparation for old age, he finished preparations diligently. Using his height taller than the tangerine trees to harvest fruit hanging high and grabbing six tangerines in one hand, Choi Hong-man again proved himself an all-around worker following his previous rice cake shop part-time job. A scene of him secretly enjoying bread and banana milk while working was also captured, drawing laughs. Working like family with the managers and his family, Choi Hong-man's presence brought warmth to viewers.
The warm hearts of Choi Hong-man and his two managers for each other moved viewers. Choi Hong-man scolded with loving nagging about manager An Deok-gi's health, who had cardiac arrest nine years ago due to arrhythmia. The manager, who said his schedule had recently increased, warmed hearts by saying Choi Hong-man's health comes first. In addition, manager An Deok-gi said, "I'll do well as much as you believe in me, so let's see this through together," and manager Boo Sang-hoon said, "It's good to see you have overcome much of the past pain," conveying sincere feelings to Choi Hong-man. Choi Hong-man responded, "I want to be with you for life and hope you stay by my side. Thank you." The three people's great friendship, supporting each other, brought the panel to tears.
According to ratings agency Nielsen Korea, Omniscient Interfering View's 368th episode recorded a 1.5% rating in the key 20-49 demographic, the core indicator of channel competitiveness, ranking first among all programs airing in the same time slot. In particular, the studio scene in which Choi Hong-man insisted he could beat a lion, a tiger and a bear but was terrified of a tiny seven-clawed crab surged to a peak minute rating of 4.8%, providing viewers with amusement.
Next week, actor Lee Joo-an, who was much loved for his role as Gong Gil, a macho sexy man of Joseon, in the drama Bon Appetit, Your Majesty, will make his first appearance on Omniscient Interfering View. Viewers anticipate revealing the daily life of "a hot passion man" Lee Joo-an, who immediately acts on what he wants to do, and a pictorial shoot that recharges his sexiness to 200%. Also, returning for fall, "쓰저씨" Kim Seok-hoon will go on a spending spree at a refurbished market with 쓰니저. In addition, Kim Seok-hoon is expected to again show his unique environmental-loving moment by holding an auction of cherished items and donating half of the revenue to climate refugees.
