Actor Cha Hyun-seung shared an update while battling leukemia.
On the 11th, a video titled "A day in the life of a leukemia patient" was uploaded to Cha Hyun-seung's YouTube channel.
That day Cha Hyun-seung filmed a day he spent at the hospital. Waiting for early morning tests, Cha Hyun-seung did some light stretching, had blood drawn and underwent checks for blood pressure and body temperature.
After taking pre-meal medicine and having breakfast, Cha Hyun-seung said "my skin keeps peeling off and healing, peeling off and healing, it keeps doing that" and showed his hands with patches of peeling skin.
He said "this is a hypertension pill, this is a muscle relaxant. The bead-like ones are chemotherapy drugs," took his post-meal medicine, and said "and I write this down every day. I have to check it every day," recording intake and output one by one.
He also checked and wrote down levels of anemia, white blood cells, neutrophils and platelets. Cha Hyun-seung said "I write the numbers every day. This is from yesterday, neutrophils should be up but they keep not coming up. They need to be above 1,000 at least," expressing concern.
He continued, "I normally write a diary every day, but since I came here and was having a hard time I only wrote on my phone. But I'm transferring them all. There are so many," and as he copied his diary he said, "while transferring my diary I faced my past self again and it became an opportunity to gain strength."
After finishing lunch, Cha Hyun-seung said "I'm going to do light exercise now. If I lie down or sit too much my condition gets worse," and began bodyweight exercise. He said "bodyweight squats 15 reps for 3 sets. Calf raises 15 reps for 3 sets and I'm sweating. Muscle loss is severe and my physical ability is different from before, so I'm sweating," reporting his changed physical condition.
After changing the bed cover and showering, Cha Hyun-seung ate dinner, took medicine and relaxed while playing games. He vowed, "this is what my days are like these days. Nothing special, right? I'll work hard to recover."
In particular, Cha Hyun-seung promised, "I didn't know announcing my condition would bring so much support. Thank you very much," and added "I'll recover even stronger."
On the 27th of last month, Cha Hyun-seung first revealed he was battling leukemia. He confessed, "In early June, I was rushed to the emergency room and my life stopped in an instant. Until then I had passed final auditions for projects I wanted to do and was running toward my dreams, but the diagnosis of 'leukemia' stopped everything."
He continued, "At first I couldn't even accept it myself and I couldn't tell anyone. Fear and confusion filled every day. Now that time has passed, I honestly feel ready to speak. I am currently receiving treatment and quietly fighting day by day," and promised, "the road ahead is long but I will definitely overcome this. My dreams and passion are still alive and I endure, longing for the day I stand again on stage and in front of the camera. I sincerely thank everyone who supported me knowingly or unknowingly. I will definitely win and return stronger and warmer."
The sudden sad news brought an outpouring of support and consolation messages from fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry. In response Cha Hyun-seung said, "Honestly I didn't expect to receive this much attention and support. I am truly grateful from the bottom of my heart. I will recover firmly. I send encouragement to all fellow patients. Let's all stay strong together until the end," he pledged.
Meanwhile, Cha Hyun-seung first became known as a dancer for singer Sunmi. In addition to Sunmi, he has worked with various singers, and in 2021 he appeared on the Netflix dating reality show "Single's Inferno."
