Group S.E.S. member Shoo opened up about the gambling controversy.
On the 10th, the YouTube channel Human That's Shoo posted a video titled "[Reedited] That controversial incident... I'll tell everything today (first release)."
The video released that day was a reedit of footage of Shoo and Im Hyo-seong that had already been made public in August. Shoo said, "Today I will re-release episode 0, which I had uploaded once before but took down because it contained parts that were not carefully considered, after refining it a bit more," and explained, "Many people have been curious about my story. This video is a careful revisiting of that first intention."
Earlier, Shoo was sentenced to six months in prison with a two-year suspended sentence and 80 hours of community service on charges of habitual gambling. Asked why she gambled, Shoo recalled, "I went to Las Vegas for an event and they said it was a place to play cards. Someone called and said they'd lend money, and 100 million won was coming in cash in a taxi. I had never seen that kind of environment before."
She continued, "I was betting a little, but people next to me were throwing down thousands at a time. As they kept winning, the stakes got bigger. It was just like hell. It's laughable that I held on to hope there. I didn't think about losing and only thought I could win."
Regarding the violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, she said, "I had been to Hong Kong and heard for the first time about a place called Macau; I didn't know it was a place like Las Vegas. I was caught for violating the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act. This may sound really ignorant, but I exchanged Hong Kong dollars from my account and didn't know I had to declare it. I was exchanging my own money. That's why I was charged with violating the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act."
Shoo said, "Looking at the result, I gambled. I did, but I was so naive about the world that I got involved in gambling and ruined myself, and I thought, 'So this is life.' After some time passed, I went to the gambling association on my own. I said I would serve as an ambassador. Honestly, I'm ashamed. I want to tell people to be careful."
