On the 579th anniversary of Hangeul Day, actor Kim Nam-gil and Professor Seo Kyung-deok of Sungshin Women's University joined forces to donate educational supplies to the Mexican "Re Monterrey Hangeul School."
Beginning with their first donation to the Gruteogi Hangeul School in New York, U.S., followed by the CanNamsadang Hangeul Culture School in Vancouver, Canada, and the Hangeul Learning Center in Budapest, Hungary, this marks their fourth donation.
Their "Hangeul globalization campaign" donates educational supplies to weekend schools working to teach Hangeul around the world and to foreigners who run study groups to learn Korean.
Professor Seo, who planned the project, said, "We recently donated a variety of educational supplies to the Re Monterrey Hangeul School in Mexico, including a smart TV, laptops and stationery."
He added, "As K-pop and K-dramas have spread widely around the world, more foreigners and overseas Koreans want to learn Hangeul and the Korean language, and I wanted to help their education even a little."
Kim Nam-gil, who sponsored the project, said, "We will seek out organizations around the world that are working to teach Hangeul and continue to provide steady support going forward."
Meanwhile, they also appeared in the promotional video for the cultural festival that promotes the excellence of Hangeul and invites global participation, "2025 Hangeul Hanmadang," helping to publicize the event.
