On Oct. 10, KBS 2TV's "Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant" (hereinafter "Fun-Staurant"/directed by Yoon Byung-il) will feature Korea's rhythmic gymnastics legend Son Yeon-jae as a guest chef. Once beloved as the "national little sister," Son Yeon-jae, now a mother, reveals her changed daily life. The story of rookie mom Son Yeon-jae, who approaches parenting with the same commitment as her training, is expected to bring warm entertainment.
When Son Yeon-jae appeared at a recent recording of the "Fun-Staurant" studio, the show's members greeted her saying, "You still look like a student." Son Yeon-jae is already a mother to an 18-month-old son. She introduced herself as "a rookie mom entering the difficult second year of parenting" and said she would "work hard with the passion of a national team athlete," expressing enthusiasm for the guest chef challenge.
Son Yeon-jae retired from 17 years as a rhythmic gymnastics athlete on Apr. 17, 2017, then transformed into a rhythmic gymnastics coach and began her second act. She married in Aug. 2022 and gave birth to a son in Feb. 2024, becoming the mother of an 18-month-old. She now lives as a rookie mother rather than a gymnastics fairy. Asked about her feelings when she retired, Son Yeon-jae said, "Honestly, it felt good," adding, "I felt bittersweet and relieved," answering candidly and drawing laughter.
In the VCR that followed, Son Yeon-jae drew attention with her fresh beauty from the morning. She confessed shyly, "It has been a while since I appeared on TV, so I dressed up a lot," and blushed. But parenting is reality. After diligently tidying up her child's scattered toys, Son Yeon-jae began making baby food. MC Boom Jibae-min and special MC Ayumi, who are also raising dragon-year babies, strongly related to Son Yeon-jae's daily life.
