Radio Star's Kim Ji-hoon said his dream is to be a singer.
On the Oct. 8 broadcast of MBC variety show Radio Star (hereafter "Ras"), in the Chuseok special "Gam da salatne," Jang Jin, Kim Ji-hoon, Kim Kyung-ran and Choi Ye-na appeared, and Kim Ji-hoon revealed the story of how he almost debuted as an idol.
That day Kim Guk-jin asked, "The idols of ajummas, Kim Ji-hoon, was he actually about to become Dongbangshinki?" Kim Ji-hoon said, "I originally trained as a trainee at SM. Around the time I was training, Dongbangshinki and Super Junior debuted. I was somewhere between Shinhwa, Super Junior and Dongbangshinki."
He continued, "I originally wanted to become a singer, so I joined through an audition, but when I got there I realized something. There are so many people with talent. I opened my mouth and it sounded exactly like the CD. The song. 'Ah, so that's why that kind of person becomes a singer.' By the time I thought I shouldn't be a singer, the company felt the same way about me."
He went on, "At that timing the company decided to start actor management for the first time and said, 'Let's make you our company's first actor,' and I thought that would be good. By mutual agreement I began learning acting from then. I started alongside friends like Lee Yeon-hee and Seo Hyun-jin."
Still, Kim Ji-hoon did not give up his dream of being a singer. Saying he dreams of being the post-Park Hyo-shin, he confessed, "I like singing and I've talked about it many times on broadcasts, so many people know. Dream big, they said, so my dream and goal is Park Hyo-shin."
He also said, "So I'm planning about 20 years (of training). One year, one year, I'm moving forward like a turtle. I'm taking lessons and practicing in spare moments." Yoo Se-yoon said, "You've improved a lot. You even appeared in content by a famous YouTuber who teaches singing," and the following screen revealed Kim Ji-hoon's before-and-after singing skills.
Kim Ji-hoon expressed his passion, "When I watch things like YouTube and find a really good teacher, I go look for them no matter what." Kim Gu-ra asked, "Have you thought about releasing music? It's doing well these days," but he replied, "I could if I wanted to, but I don't want to rely on machines. I don't want to make music that even I don't want to listen to."
When the MCs asked, "Sing one verse," he said, "I'm not ready now. If I appear on Ras again, I'll sing on stage once," and promised.
