Radio Star's Kim Ji-hoon explained why he took on villain roles.
On the Oct. 8 broadcast of MBC variety show Radio Star (hereinafter "Ras"), with a "Everything's back to life" Chuseok special, Jang Jin, Kim Ji-hoon, Kim Kyung-ran and Choi Ye-na grants.
Kim Ji-hoon, who is called "Evil Ji-hoon" on the drama scene, said, "I have recently played villain roles several times. Many people have come to remember me with that image," adding, "That was because I was so trapped in the weekend drama image that I was confident I could do other diverse things besides this, but no one saw me that way."
At the time Kim Ji-hoon even took as long as a three-year break from work to break away from the image. He said, "I took a few years off and I couldn't do anything other than the friendly image. So I really waited, prepared to starve to death."
Then Kim Ji-hoon, who said he first played a villain in the 2019 drama Babel, said, "It was the first time I played a husband who hits his wife. On the outside he's a nice, well-mannered chaebol, but he hits her. It's a role that dies after three episodes of the drama, but I thought of it as an opportunity and worked hard. Through that drama I was cast in the drama The Flower of Evil."
About The Flower of Evil, he said, "It was a role described in one line of the synopsis. It was truly a reckless gamble to play a murderer who was in a coma for 15 years. Because in the script he is a vegetative person for eight episodes."
Still, Kim Ji-hoon expressed pride, saying, "I spent half of the drama shoot lying down, so I didn't know how to prepare for the acting. But once he woke up he killed and left a big impact, so it became the work of my life for me."
