MBN Wednesday-Thursday miniseries First Lady seizes attention with a secret "hospital corridor whispered two-shot" from 15 years ago when Yoo-jin and Lee Min-young moved as one.
MBN Wednesday-Thursday miniseries First Lady (writer Kim Hyeong-wan, director Lee Ho-hyeon, produced by Studio Jidam Co., Artist Studio, Roadshow Plus Co.) follows the story that unfolds when a husband who was elected president demands a divorce from the wife who would become first lady, an unprecedented incident. From its first broadcast it ranked No. 2 in Netflix's "Today's Korea TOP 10 series" category and, as of the 8th (Wed), has landed in the top 10, leading the center of attention.
In the previous broadcast, Cha Su-yeon (played by Yoo-jin) exposed Hyun Min-cheol's (played by Ji Hyun-woo) affair and then reversed public criticism by kneeling and apologizing in front of the fan club "Iron Lady" members, starting a "mud-slinging war." Meanwhile, Shin Hae-rin (played by Lee Min-young) was found to have used a school violence video of Hyun Ji-yu (played by Park Seo-kyung), was cut off by Hyun Min-cheol, and eventually left the presidential transition committee, drawing attention to her whereabouts.
Relatedly, in episode 6 of First Lady, which airs today on the 9th, Yoo-jin and Lee Min-young amplify tension with an "ominous private meeting" scene in which they engage in a stormy debate in the suffocating stillness of 15 years ago. In the drama, Cha Su-yeon and Shin Hae-rin converse in the hospital corridor outside Hyun Min-cheol's room, who was injured in the Hasung chemical plant fire incident.
Cha Su-yeon gives weight to every word, revealing a cold charisma, while Shin Hae-rin shows confusion to Cha Su-yeon with a shocked look. In particular, Cha Su-yeon cuts off and blocks Shin Hae-rin's rebuttal in a firm tone, raising questions about what the two women's whispered conversation 15 years ago was about and whether it relates to the extreme confrontation the two are having now.
Meanwhile, Yoo-jin and Lee Min-young filmed the "secret whispered two-shot," drawing attention with performances that matched Cha Su-yeon and Shin Hae-rin from 15 years ago in speech, gaze and gestures. Yoo-jin portrayed Cha Su-yeon, who regains her center and exudes cold decisiveness, while Lee Min-young sincerely depicted Shin Hae-rin's emotional line of bewilderment and fear, increasing immersion. Above all, the two actors' perfectly synced acting breathingly captured the tension and produced a highly polished scene.
The production team said, "This scene indicates that Yoo-jin and Lee Min-young, who are currently in a tense opposing relationship, were once politically aligned," and added, "Please watch the whispered meeting between Yoo-jin and Lee Min-young, which lays an important foreshadowing of the truth that drives episode 6."
