Actor Lee Dong-hwi candidly revealed his sincere feelings about marriage following his breakup with former partner Jung Ho-yeon.
In a recently released video on the YouTube channel "JoJjaezeu" titled "'JoJjaezeu changed after getting big...' Lee Dong-hwi, drunk exposé with Gray," Lee Dong-hwi had an honest conversation with close friends JoJjaezeu and Gray. Known for leading the mood with his usually cheerful banter, he spoke seriously about his thoughts when the subject of marriage came up.
When JoJjaezeu said, "Dong-hwi doesn't seem worried. Rather, Seonghwa (Gray) seems more passive," Lee Dong-hwi replied, "So am I the proactive one?" When JoJjaezeu joked, "You're the most proactive person in Korea," he laughed and said, "These days I really feel I have to be proactive (about marriage)."
Lee Dong-hwi said, "I vaguely wanted to marry early, but before I knew it I feel like it's late," and "I feel like there's not much time left. I'm worried that if I have children later, my parents will have less time to see their grandchildren." Repeatedly he vowed, "Now I really have to do it quickly," drawing attention.
These remarks from Lee Dong-hwi attract more attention because he mentioned thoughts about marriage for the first time after experiencing a public relationship and breakup with Jung Ho-yeon.
He had publicly dated model and actress Jung Ho-yeon since 2015. The two were regarded as one of the entertainment industry's long-running couples, supporting each other's work and showing affection at award ceremonies, earning strong support from fans. Even after Jung Ho-yeon rose to global stardom through "Squid Game," their relationship seemed unchanged.
However, in Nov. 2024, news of their breakup came after about nine years of dating. At the time both sides said, "We have decided to remain good colleagues," and quietly ended the relationship. Fans expressed both regret and supportive messages for the choice of the two who had remained by each other's sides for a long time.
After a long time since the breakup, Lee Dong-hwi opened up about his honest feelings on marriage. His remark that "now I have to be proactive" sounds significant.
