Actor Jin Tae-hyun revealed he is in good health three months after thyroid cancer surgery.
Jin Tae-hyun and Park Si-eun posted a video titled "Park Si-eun Jin Tae-hyun's pros and cons review three months after thyroid cancer surgery" on their YouTube channel "Small TV" on the 9th.
In the video, Park Si-eun said, "Even at two months (after surgery) he seemed a little recovered, but it didn't seem like his condition had fully returned," and described her husband Jin Tae-hyun's recovery process. Jin Tae-hyun said, "At three months my condition seems about 90% back." To that, Park Si-eun added, "He actually seems less tired. Before, by the afternoon a fatigue like lethargy would come on, but that definitely doesn't show anymore."
In particular, Jin Tae-hyun said, "The hospital did blood tests and all the measurements. Everything is normal," which brought relief. He continued, "Many people worried whether I could live like before. But I think worry takes hold of a person. Even during and after the surgery, this is the first time I haven't been this focused. Maybe because I wanted to run marathons well, my focus was on recovering and living well, not on being sick and worried. I had no time to worry."
He said, "Of course it varies by person. I am that kind of person, so it passed quickly. Honestly, it was confirmed as cancer in April. From April to October it went by in a blur. It wasn't 'what should I do?' but rather 'I can't train for marathons; I need to recover quickly to train.' I only thought about wanting to exercise. I lost three months of training this year so I can't run the marathon. Of course I will finish the marathon, but I won't hit my goal. So I'm thinking about next year. Thanks to that, the first major illness of my life came and it passed without much trouble," he emphasized.
However, the scar reminded him of the surgery. To that, Park Si-eun said, "One thing that makes it memorable is the scar. You have to put a bandage on the scar. So even if we go out, if it's not covered, we come back inside to reapply it before going out again. I think that's why it makes you remember."
Jin Tae-hyun said, "Many people asked why I didn't have robot surgery. The reason I didn't is because I thought it was somewhat excessive. It was also an early stage, and if it were a necessary surgery I would of course do it, but it wasn't about the expense, I wondered if making such a wound was that big a deal. Also, wanting to leave a scar was my first reason. And it seemed better to have the doctor perform the surgery directly. It felt a bit analog," he said with a laugh.
Above all, he said, "Now that three months have passed since the surgery, my wife and I are getting along very well," and added, "After surgery the first, second and third are stability. It's not 'Jin Tae-hyun ran, he's not sick.' It's that I'm not sick. Don't take it too lightly. It's possible because it's me. Even before the surgery I had built up stamina. Before the surgery I was the kind of person who, if bored, would go out and run 20 km or 15 km. So my recovery was fast."
