Ji Hyun-woo and Lee Min-young in "First Lady" raise tension with a "dramatic reversal standoff" scene in which the once-solid faith is completely overturned.
The recently airing MBN Wednesday-Thursday miniseries "First Lady" (written by Kim Hyung-wan, directed by Lee Ho-hyun) ranked No. 2 in Netflix's "Today's South Korea TOP 10 series" institutional sector from its first broadcast and, as of Sept. 7, has dominated the TOP 10, generating buzz. Also, Good Data Corporation, a TV buzz analysis firm, announced that in the Sept. 4 week "drama TV-OTT search response" it ranked in the TOP 8, and "First Lady characters" ranked in the drama search issue keyword TOP 3, proving its hot buzz.
In the previous episode, Hyun Min-cheol (played by Ji Hyun-woo) raised tension by warning chief secretary Shin Hae-rin (played by Lee Min-young) in connection with the leaked school violence video of his daughter Hyun Ji-yoo (played by Park Seo-kyung). Hyun Min-cheol repeatedly called the recovering Shin Hae-rin to confirm, saying, "Are you related to the video leak?" and gave a firm rebuke, "You must not act or decide on your own," leaving Shin Hae-rin frozen.
Relatedly, in episode 5 of "First Lady," which airs today (Oct. 8), Ji Hyun-woo and Lee Min-young create unease by bringing a "direct clash" scene that completely overturns the trust and loyalty they had built up. In the drama's icy atmosphere, Hyun Min-cheol and Shin Hae-rin raise their voices at each other. Hyun Min-cheol casts a fierce look at Shin Hae-rin and erupts in rage, while Shin Hae-rin, with tears welling, stands her ground and protests. As Hyun Min-cheol and Shin Hae-rin continue a tense emotional confrontation with no retreat, curiosity grows over how the pre-storm "dramatic reversal standoff" will end.
Especially through this scene in which belief-based confrontation between the president-elect and his loyal chief secretary explodes, Ji Hyun-woo and Lee Min-young confirmed their "must-see acting." Ji Hyun-woo, as the president-elect at the center of power but also a father with affection and responsibility for his daughter, detailed Hyun Min-cheol's anguish and completed the "apex of anger." Lee Min-young conveyed Shin Hae-rin's hidden ambition, who tries to make her loyalty understood by asserting a meticulous political conviction, with a single tear, generating tension. Their restrained emotional acting shone, overwhelming the set and drawing high praise.
The production team said, "This scene, in which political justice and human emotion collide, becomes a decisive turning point that completely reverses the dynamic between Ji Hyun-woo and Lee Min-young," and added, "Please watch episode 5, which will sweep in a shocking reversal caused by Park Seo-kyung's school violence video and unexpected repercussions."
"First Lady" tells the story that unfolds when a husband elected president demands a divorce from the wife who is about to become first lady, triggering an unprecedented incident. It airs tonight at 10:20 p.m.
