The comedy world sank into deep sorrow once again. Just two weeks after news of the death of the late Jeon Yu-seong, known as the "lend" of the comedy world, a sudden bereavement of junior comedian Jeong Se-hyeop followed.
On the 7th, KBS2's Gag Concert posted on its official social media, "We express our deep condolences on the tragic news of comedian the late Jeong Se-hyeop. We respectfully pray for the deceased's repose," and shared images of Jeong Se-hyeop's performances during his life.
Jeong Se-hyeop passed away on the night of the 6th. He was 41. He debuted in 2008 as a comedian in SBS's 10th public recruitment class and was active on shows such as People Looking for Laughter (Uchatsa), Gag Tonight, and Gag Concert. In particular, he was beloved for the "Chao Chao~" catchphrase and cute makeup in Uchatsa's "Chow Chow" segment.
However, he was diagnosed with leukemia in 2015 and did not lose hope despite the despair of a 10% survival rate. After seven years of fighting the illness, he was declared cured in 2022 and returned last year through Gag Concert, but his death after one year has added to the sorrow.
In response to Jeong Se-hyeop's bereavement, fellow comedian Kim Won-hyo wrote, "We respectfully pray for the deceased's repose. In a freer place, perform comedy more comfortably... Don't cry; live with laughter," leaving a message of condolence. On the same day, Hong Hyun-hee also wrote on social media, "My heart aches so much at this unbelievable news. Now rest in a place without pain. We respectfully pray for the deceased's repose," expressing her heavy feelings. She also revealed photos of herself warmly caring for Jeong Se-hyeop during his life, which moved fans even more.
Earlier on the 25th of last month, master comedian Jeon Yu-seong of Korea's comedy world died from worsening chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Having set the foundation of Korean comedy from the 1970s across broadcasting and performances, he was respected by many juniors, and everyone was shocked at his obituary. And within just two weeks, with consecutive obituaries for Jeon Yu-seong and Jeong Se-hyeop, the comedy world has been plunged into deep loss.
Netizens also expressed condolences such as "I can't believe there is more bad news after teacher Jeon Yu-seong," "When Jeong Se-hyeop overcame leukemia and returned to the stage it was truly moving, but it's so empty now," and "I hope he brings laughter from the sky as well." As one netizen said, the wish that "both will also provide laughter in the sky" remains the only comfort in this sorrow.
The funeral parlor is set up in Hwaseong Hambaeksan Funeral Hall, Room 2, the funeral procession is at 7:40 a.m. on the 9th, and the burial site is Hambaeksan Memorial Park.
