Actor Lee Sung-min revealed fellow actor Lee Byung-hun's hard-fought efforts for an Academy Awards race in the film No Other Choice.
On the afternoon of the 8th, Lee Sung-min appeared as a guest on SBS Radio's live Two O'Clock Escape Cultwo Show (abbreviated Cultwo Show). He met DJs Kim Tae-gyun and Hwang Chi-yeul and talked about his recent activities.
Lee Sung-min is meeting audiences with the film No Other Choice, which recently surpassed 2 million viewers. No Other Choice tells the story of office worker Mansu (Lee Byung-hun), who felt his life was so fulfilled that he thought "everything was achieved," but is suddenly fired. After his dismissal, he prepares his own war toward reemployment to protect his wife and two children and to hold on to the home he worked hard to obtain.
In particular, the film is director Park Chan-wook's new work, and actor Lee Byung-hun has been praised for his passionate performance as the protagonist Mansu. Among them, Lee Sung-min gave a strong performance as Beom-mo, who becomes Mansu's rival.
Even actor Lee Byung-hun, who worked with him, praised Lee Sung-min's acting as perfect, calling him a "pentagonal actor." Lee Sung-min replied, "I first saw Byung-hun when I was doing the film Director General of Namsan. I think I had thought of him as a 'pentagonal' actor even before that. As an actor, not only his looks but his acting skills, physicality, and the way he can carry characters from various angles make him the most perfect actor in Korea. What surprised me about Director General of Namsan was his diligence. His conscientiousness, the way he thought and worked hard even before coming to the set, was impressive. Director Park Chan-wook joked that he grumbles on set, but actor Lee Byung-hun was astonishingly diligent on set," he responded.
Lee Sung-min joked, "I'm just handsome in a county town, and actor Lee Byung-hun is handsome in a special city." He continued, "Lee Byung-hun is also sincere about promotion. Right now, the director and he should be going to the New York Film Festival, London and Miami film festivals. They are probably flying across the Pacific now. The official schedule has ended, but they came because Cultwo Show was scheduled. Yeom Hye-ran and domestic post-screening discussions remain. The foreign festivals are likely part of the campaign for the Academy Awards, so please cheer for good news," he added.
No Other Choice was released on the 24th of last month and is meeting audiences.
