Broadcasters Kim Sook and Koo Bon-seung's "Oct. 7 wedding rumor" recently reignited half in jest, half in earnest, and now that much-anticipated Oct. 7 has actually arrived. People are wondering whether this fling will come to an end.
Earlier, on the Oct. 2 broadcast of KBS2 "Problem Child in House," Kim Sook and Koo Bon-seung reunited and continued a peculiar "flirtatious mood." That day the production team said, "We will sort out Kim Sook's complicated relationships with men," and invited newlywed Yoon Jung-soo and "flirt guy" Koo Bon-seung to the same place, setting up a tense three-way meeting.
Koo Bon-seung elicited laughter as soon as he appeared by introducing himself, "I am the man of Oct. 7." He also directly addressed the truth behind the "wedding rumor" surrounding him. He explained, "I was in Japan that day (Oct. 7), and I was startled when family elders called," and added, "When I searched, a wedding article was up. It was news I heard for the first time."
Actually, the "wedding rumor" between the two began by chance. On the Apr. broadcast of "Pursuing Old Encounters," Park Myung-soo joked, "Are you getting married around autumn? How about Oct. 7?" and Kim Sook replied, "I'll follow oppa's opinion (Koo Bon-seung)," which started it. That one remark was reported as an article, spreading the "wedding rumor" and eventually causing an incident that even surprised their families.
But the subtle atmosphere between the "flirt boy and flirt girl" remained. Kim Sook laughed, "I don't know about marriage, but it would be fun to hang out with oppa. It's fishing, not dating," and Joo Woo-jae kept questioning, "Isn't this dating?" When Koo Bon-seung said, "Kim Sook gave me a camera I needed as a gift," Song Eun-i pushed the mood, "That's flirting!" Crucially, when Kim Sook said, "Bon-seung oppa said he'd send me cuttlefish if he catches them," Song Eun-i burst into laughter, "That's a proposal!" Kim Sook blushed, saying, "This oppa keeps doing this," and Koo Bon-seung added to the excitement by offering, "Then come fishing with me sometime," effectively asking for an after-date.
But Koo Bon-seung expressed a cautious stance on dating. He said frankly, "My last relationship was 17 to 18 years ago," and added, "Now the weight of meeting and parting has changed. I'm more careful about relationships with people." When asked about his ideal type, he said, "If I used to look only at advantages, now I'm attracted to independent people who are responsible for their work," and Kim Sook immediately teased, "Then that's me?" prompting laughter to return.
Above all, after the broadcast aired, online internet users reacted explosively with comments like, "Won't they upload a wedding video on Oct. 7 at this rate?", "It's really Oct. 7 — what will happen? It would be such a shame if their chemistry ended like this," and even, "The fling that started with fishing should now lead to marriage," and "This flirtation can't just end!" And finally Oct. 7 arrived. Internet users have expressed hope in unison, saying, "At this point shouldn't they at least have a mock wedding?", "I hope it's the day she really gets a cuttlefish proposal."
Meanwhile, Kim Sook and Koo Bon-seung became a hot topic after they matched as the final couple on the dating show "Pursuing Old Encounters" that aired in Jan. Later, they again drew attention by filming Jeju fishing content together on the YouTube channel "Kim Sook TV," and Kim Sook at the time suggested, "Let's upload it on Oct. 7. On oppa's channel!"
