The Fireworks Fighters raised the flag of a pleasant victory at their new home stadium.
On the 29th, the baseball variety show Fireworks Baseball episode 23, released on Studio C1's official YouTube channel, depicted the Fireworks Fighters' 9-4 rout of independent club Hwaseong Koriyo.
That day's game, the first to be held at the Fireworks Fighters' dedicated stadium Daejeon Fighters Park and the first match since a previous loss, carried special determination from the players. Starting pitcher Lee Dae-eun became the first pitcher to record a 1-2-3 inning at Fighters Park by easily shutting down Hwaseong Koriyo's top of the order in the top of the first.
In the bottom of the first, the Fighters' lineup also got off to a flying start against Hwaseong Koriyo starter Cho Eun. A bases-loaded chance was created by Choi Soo-hyun, Park Yong-taek and Lee Dae-ho, and No. 5 hitter Lee Taek-geun drove in two runs with a two-run hit to energize the atmosphere. Afterward, Jung Sung-yoon drew a walk, and with the relief pitcher Lee Jun-gi on the mound, consecutive hits by Jung Sung-hoon and Kim Min-beom followed, completing a 5-0 big inning for the Fighters.
In the top of the second, Lee Dae-eun gave up a walk and a hit to the No. 4 and No. 5 hitters, allowing one run, but he survived the threat with help from the defense. In the bottom of the second, captain Park Yong-taek, batting, proved his star power by hitting a towering solo home run off Lee Jun-gi.
In the top of the fourth, Lee Dae-eun suddenly suffered a dip in condition and issued a walk to leadoff batter Kim Dong-ho. After also allowing a steal and a walk, Lee Dae-eun finally gave up an infield hit for one run and then allowed a two-run hit to the next batter Im Dong-hyeok before leaving the mound. With two outs and a runner on first, manager Kim Sung-geun brought in pitcher Shin Jae-young and catcher Park Jae-wook. They closed out the inning by handling the remaining outs with perfect coordination.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Fighters' offense attacked the Hwaseong Koriyo mound further. With Jeong Geun-woo's hit and Choi Soo-hyun's bunt, a 1-out, 2-run scoring chance arose, and Park Yong-taek, whose hitting was at its peak, delivered the team's third hit of the game to widen the lead to 7-4. In the bottom of the fifth, the Fighters added another run on a walk by Lee Taek-geun and hits by Park Jae-wook and Kim Jae-ho. Then, taking advantage of a defensive lapse by the opponent, Park Jae-wook's baserunning extended the lead to 9-4.
In the top of the sixth, manager Kim Sung-geun strengthened the defense by replacing left fielder Choi Soo-hyun with right fielder Moon Gyo-won. But the Fighters faced an unexpected variable: a blister on Shin Jae-young's hand burst. Still, Shin Jae-young demonstrated "AI pitching," striking out seven batters across the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. With two outs in the eighth and Shin Jae-young leaving the mound due to injury, Yoo Hee-kwan came in. He retired Kang Dong-woo on a double play to end the inning.
In the top of the ninth, only three outs stood between the Fighters and their first win at Fighters Park. Yoo Hee-kwan induced a fly to right, a strikeout and a fly to left to preserve the Fighters' victory. The precious first win at their new nest brought broad smiles to those watching.
Next week's broadcast will reveal the live-attendance game between the Fireworks Fighters and Busan High. It promises to be a game full of sights and romance, featuring former Lotte Giants pitcher Song Seung-jun's first start on Fireworks Baseball, which is inseparable from Busan, and Busan High's powerful lineup.
Meanwhile, Fireworks Baseball will hold its 11th live-attendance game of the 2025 season at Gocheok Sky Dome at 2 p.m. on the 12th (Sun). The opponent is Hanil University of Korea, the U-League champion in college baseball. It also announced a 12th live-attendance game against Dong-Eui University of Science, the KUSF college baseball U-League Gyeongsang region champion, at Daejeon Fighters Park at 5 p.m. on the 19th (Sun). In particular, the Dong-Eui University of Science game will be broadcast live on SBS Plus, easing the disappointment of fans who could not get tickets.
