"Chao chao!". The late comedian Jeong Se-hyeop, who gained popularity with the 'Hao and Chao' segment, has suddenly passed away, drawing sorrow.
Jeong Se-hyeop died on the afternoon of the 6th. He was 41.
The wake was set up in Room 2 of Hambaeksan Funeral Home in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. The funeral procession is at 7:40 a.m. on the 9th, and the burial site is Hambaeksan Memorial Park.
According to broadcasting officials, Jeong Se-hyeop, while with acquaintances on the day he died, complained of chest pain and went to a nearby emergency room. However, he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and, despite receiving CPR, ultimately did not regain consciousness.
Born in 1984, Jeong Se-hyeop debuted in 2008 as a comedian selected through SBS's 10th special recruitment. In particular, he drew attention through the 2012 SBS segment 'Hao and Chao' on Gag Tonight. In the segment, he amused audiences with the character 'Chao chao,' who imitated the Chinese pet dog chow chow. His habit of shouting "Chao chao!" regardless of what was said and then imitating a dog provided delightful laughter and became a hot topic.
He later joined the revived SBS flagship comedy show You, Laugh? but when You, Laugh? was canceled again in 2017, SBS comedians lost their footing. In particular, Jeong Se-hyeop battled leukemia for about five years, drawing sympathy. Fortunately, he was declared free of leukemia after a bone marrow transplant. He later appeared on the 2022 YouTube channel "Midnight Shrine" and belatedly confessed his battle with leukemia, drawing support.
Recently he was also appearing on KBS 2TV's entertainment program Gag Concert (commonly called Gag Con). Because Gag Con was KBS's flagship public comedy show and the last stronghold of comedy programs on terrestrial TV, Jeong Se-hyeop poured his passion into it. He had appeared on the Gag Con episode that aired on the 5th. The fact that he suddenly died on the next day, the Chuseok holiday, makes his passing all the more tragic and shocking.
In response, Gag Con announced Jeong Se-hyeop's obituary through its official SNS. Senior comedian and Gag Con performer Kim Won-hyo shared the obituary on his personal SNS and offered condolences, saying "My deepest condolences. Keep doing comedy more comfortably in a freer place... Don't cry, live on smiling..."
