On the 7th, KBS2's "Gag Concert" expressed on its official SNS, "We extend our deepest condolences on the tragic news of comedian the late Jeong Se-hyeop. We respectfully pray for the deceased's repose," and mourned the deceased.
Jeong Se-hyeop died on the night of the 6th. The wake was set up at Hwaseong Hambaeksan Funeral Hall, the funeral will be at 7:40 a.m. on the 9th, and the burial site is Hambaeksan Memorial Park.
Jeong Se-hyeop, who debuted in 2008 as a comedian in SBS's 10th public recruitment class, made a name for himself by working on public comedy programs such as "Finding Laughter" and "Gag Tonight." He was especially beloved for leaving the catchphrase "Chaochao~" with cute makeup in the "ChauChau" segment of "Finding Laughter."
However, in 2015 he was diagnosed with leukemia. Facing a survival rate barrier of 10%, he never gave up hope, underwent a bone marrow transplant, and after seven years of battling the disease was declared cured in 2022. He returned to perform for fans last year through "Gag Concert," but sadly passed away again one year after being declared cured, deepening the sorrow.
This tragic news came just two weeks after the death of the late Jeon Yu-seong on the 25th of last month, delivering a heavy shock to the comedy world.
The late Jeon Yu-seong died at the age of 76 from worsening pulmonary emphysema. From the 1970s he was a pioneer who opened a new chapter in Korean comedy, expanding the horizons of comedy as not only a broadcaster but also a writer, performance planner and film director.
Following comedy elder Jeon Yu-seong, and then junior Jeong Se-hyeop, the comedy community fell into deep mourning. Many junior comedians and fans have expressed condolences, saying, "May they bring laughter even in heaven," and "These successive tragedies are so heartbreaking."
