'Radio Star' guest Kim Kyung-ran honestly confesses the second act of her life, after transforming from an announcer-turned broadcaster into a stage actress.
The MBC variety show 'Radio Star,' airing Wednesday night on the 8th, is presented as a Chuseok special titled 'Gam da sal-assne' featuring Jang Jin, Kim Ji-hoon, Kim Kyung-ran and Choi Ye-na.
Kim Kyung-ran is a KBS 27th class announcer alumna who, after appearing on 'News9,' 'Sponge,' and 'Open Concert,' has worked across variety shows and the theater stage since declaring herself a freelancer. Recently, she received praise for her immersive performance in the play 'Forest of Memory.'
She says, "It was thanks to Cho Hye-ryeon that I got to stand on the theater stage," expressing gratitude to Cho Hye-ryeon, who recommended theater and moving the audience. She added, "The reason I jumped into variety after declaring myself a freelancer was also to find out 'who I am offstage.'"
In particular, Kim Kyung-ran attracts everyone's attention with a dramatically changed appearance. When an MC said they mistook her from behind for a girl group member, other guests joined in and showered her with compliments.
An anecdote about her role as the 'brain queen' in the variety world is also revealed. When she finished as runner-up on 'The Genius,' she joked, "I was the second-place contestant who made Hong Jin-ho first," generating laughter, and she said, "I received strategy tutoring from Jang Dong-min and won the next game," causing the studio to burst out laughing. She also shared behind-the-scenes stories of appearing on 'Game of Blood 3' and revealed her philosophy on variety shows, drawing attention.
Behind-the-scenes stories from her KBS announcer days are also shared. She recalled, "There was a time when I was caught between Kang Soo-jung and Noh Hyun-jung," recounting episodes inside the station at the time, and named 'Sponge' as the program of her life. "The experiment of putting the frog to sleep was amazing even now," she recalled, turning the studio into a sea of laughter.
She also recounted the incident in which she was the first to notice actress Sunwoo Yong-yeo's stroke emergency and stopped the recording. Kim Kyung-ran humbly said, "At that time my quick judgment prevented a major incident," and MCs reportedly applauded, saying, "You really are a lifesaver."
Finally, she reenacted on set the finger trick she showed when she appeared on 'King of Mask Singer.' The MCs laughed at the fingers moving freely like playing the piano, and Kim Kyung-ran cheerfully replied, "My fingers were more of a topic than the singing." It airs Wednesday the 8th at 10:30 p.m. <
