"He really felt like our boss." 2PM member and actor Lee Junho has been reborn as the inaugural boss of 'Typhoon Family' amid praise from his colleagues.
On the evening of the 5th, tvN aired 'Typhoon Family: first day on the job preparations,' in which the tvN new Saturday-Sunday miniseries Typhoon Family showed the main cast discussing the drama ahead of its official broadcast.
'Typhoon Family' is a work that depicts the hard-fought coming-of-age story of Kang Taepung (Lee Junho), a rookie company man who has become the president of a trading company with no employees, no money and nothing left to sell, set in 1997 during the IMF crisis. Lee Junho, a 2PM member and actor who received praise for 'The Red Sleeve' and 'King the Land,' plays the title role, raising expectations among drama fans.
In interview remarks revealed through 'Typhoon Family: first day on the job preparations,' Lee Junho introduced Typhoon Family and his character Kang Taepung. He said, "Taepung is a character with the strength of a 'jungkkeokma' (an unbreakable spirit), who does not give in and does not bend," and emphasized that "he is always beaten down but is a pure character who never gives up hope."
In particular, Lee Junho said, "I've been surprised at myself over the past seven or eight months, wondering if I really had this side. I thought about what it would have been like if I had had this personality when I was younger," revealing how captivated he was by Kang Taepung in Typhoon Family.
Furthermore, he recalled the IMF period that serves as the drama's historical backdrop: "At that time I was a kindergartener, an elementary school student. I remember the gold collection campaign." Above all, Lee Junho said, "I remember seeing my parents at that time worrying about how to save our country. I think the production expresses that era's conditions well," adding a touching note.
Perhaps because of those concerns, Lee Junho even used his own money to help preserve the period authenticity of Typhoon Family. To introduce the work, supporting actors Kim Jae-hwa and Lee Sang-jin said the production team revealed, "Kang Taepung's character gives the impression of being the son of a company president. (Lee Junho) said he spent a lot of his own expense."
Kim Jae-hwa and Lee Sang-jin were so surprised after hearing about the costume expenses Lee Junho invested in that they were at a loss for words, which sparked even more curiosity. The two then added, "That's incredible," and "How are we supposed to react to this?" showing their embarrassment and curiosity.
In reality, Lee Junho was the practical leader of the Typhoon Family team. Lee Sang-jin said, "Actor Lee Junho is amazing. He fits the rogue-like style well, and because he acted in a way that made him feel like the company president, it was easy to immerse myself," adding, "His attitude and synchronization are 100%. Junho hyung is a prankster on set. He jokes a lot, but when it's time to shoot he showed an incredibly smart side. I thought a lot about how clever a person can be."
Kim Jae-hwa also praised him, saying, "He is the leader of our team. He checks on each actor's condition and takes care of everyone. Our boss." She added, "He was that sincere in focusing on the character and prepared a lot."
Through these efforts, Lee Junho's Typhoon Family opens on Saturday the 11th at 9:10 p.m. Coincidentally, the preceding tvN Saturday-Sunday miniseries, Bon Appetit, Your Majesty, achieved great success, so attention is focused on the performance of the follow-up work. After Im Yoon-a, who was the King the Land duo, scored a hit with Bon Appetit, Your Majesty, eyes are on whether Lee Junho can smoothly carry the baton with Typhoon Family.
