Actor Do Sang-woo engulfed living rooms with a frenzied performance.
Do Sang-woo played Kang Hwi-rim, a chaebol heir who harbors a secret, in the KBS 2TV weekend miniseries Walking On Thin Ice that aired on the 4th and 5th.
In the drama, Kang Hwi-rim appears with silver hair, which was done on the advice of James (played by Kim Young-kwang) to avoid police scrutiny.
One could also glimpse the way Kang Hwi-rim manipulates those around him. When James praised a partner's way of handling matters, Kang Hwi-rim said in a cynical tone, "Keep him going. Turning someone into my person is easy. You identify their weakness and stimulate their desire. Once a person has had a deficiency filled, they can never go back to before,"
Later, Kang Hwi-rim strongly warned James, who did not show up for their appointment, saying, "You keep calling him pretty, pretty, and he's crawling up to the top of his head. If he doesn't come today, he's out right away," foreshadowing a rupture in their relationship. Under the influence of drugs, Kang Hwi-rim's bloodshot gaze perfectly portrayed a face consumed by madness and lust for power, sending chills.
In this way, Do Sang-woo has surprised viewers each episode by fully immersing himself in the role, even attempting a visual transformation. Critics say Do Sang-woo increases immersion by delicately portraying the drug-addicted Kang Hwi-rim with rough breathing and unsteady movements.
Meanwhile, the KBS2 series Walking On Thin Ice, which features Do Sang-woo, airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:20 p.m.
