Hwang Seong-bin spoke about working with The Mantis: Original Sin co-stars Yim Siwan and Park Gyu-young.
Recently, an interview with actor Hwang Seong-bin was held at the OSEN office in Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
Hwang Seong-bin has been showing an unceasing acting trajectory, appearing in the film The Mantis: Original Sin recently released on Netflix, the series Aema, the SBS drama The Winning Try and more.
In particular, in The Mantis: Original Sin he took on the role of 'Pumppai,' always somewhat wronged, a kind of company punching bag, saying, "'Pumppai' is his real name. Actually the name is 'Boom-bye'" as he explained the character setting and behind-the-scenes details.
He went on, "In the synopsis, Han-ul (Yim Siwan), Jae-i (Park Gyu-young), Dong-young (Yu Su-bin), Soo-min (Bae Kang-hee) and Pumppai were all from the same orphanage. That wasn't revealed in the work, but in the setting they had a sibling-like relationship. The director also said it wouldn't be wrong to see the orphanage as a training ground for killers."
The Mantis: Original Sin recorded 7 million cumulative views (the number of viewing hours divided by the work's total running time) within three days after its release on the 26th of last month, and rose to No. 3 in the global top 10 films (non-English) category.
Asked about the reactions exchanged among the cast of The Mantis: Original Sin, he said, "Actually I was just contacting Gyu-young nuna and I told her (the ranking). She didn't know. She said, 'It will do better,' 'Don't worry.' Recently I met senior actors again at the preview after a long time and we talked about various things."
He added, "Siwan hyung helped us so much throughout the shoot. We had a reading the day before shooting, got together and worked on the next day's scenes. He offered ideas. To me, a rookie who didn't have many scenes interacting with the seniors, he encouraged me. He also cheered me on to do what I wanted."
He said, "So I relied a lot on the hyungs throughout filming. Also, since I spent a lot of time with Gyu-young nuna, I actually assisted her and called her 'hyungnim.' In that way I think I relied on her a lot too."
