Actor Son Sang-yeon steps up as a strong supporter of Park Jeong-yeon.
In KBS 2TV weekend drama Our Golden Days (directed by Kim Hyung-seok, written by So Hyun-kyung), Son Sang-yeon, who plays Lee Ji-wan, portrayed Ji-wan recognizing and cheering on Park Young-ra (played by Park Jeong-yeon)'s hidden talent.
In the drama, Ji-wan feels sorry for Young-ra, who gives up webtoons and prepares for Western painting according to her mother's wishes. Ji-wan honestly tells her, "You draw so well and have so much fun doing it—why aren't you a webtoon artist and do Western painting?" and "You sent me your files and I watched them for a long time. They were so fun," acknowledging Young-ra's talent. He then revealed his role as a strong supporter with a heartfelt line reflecting Ji-wan's characteristic regret: "At least keep drawing until the end. For your own sake."
In particular, episode 17, which aired last Saturday, revealed Ji-wan's unique straight-forward instinct. Her drive to pull Young-ra, who has never been to a comic book cafe, to go research it in person, and the affectionate act of sitting beside Young-ra as she tries cup noodles for the first time, added an odd yet honest tsundere charm that critics say enhanced the character's dimensionality.
In this way, Son Sang-yeon delicately expressed the supportive feelings hidden beneath Ji-wan's blunt manner and convincingly conveyed Ji-wan's emotions. At times, the rapid-fire lines paired with a tender gaze went beyond simple encouragement to show genuine care and support for the other's talent. Especially by caring for Young-ra as if it were her own matter, Son Sang-yeon's added tenderness and 'teto-nam' charm drew viewers' sympathy and raised interest in her future activities.
Meanwhile, the KBS 2TV weekend drama Our Golden Days, featuring Chun Ho-jin, Jung Il-woo, Jung In-sun, Yoon Hyun-min and Son Sang-yeon, airs every Saturday and Sunday at 8 p.m.
