Actor Jo A-ram properly struck a chord with viewers' empathy buttons with her struggling company life.
Jo A-ram in the May 3 and 4 broadcasts of the MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'To the Moon' (planning: Jang Jae-hoon / directors: Oh Da-young, Jeong Hoon / writer: Na Yoon-chae / production: Bon Factory) episodes 5 and 6 evoked real-life empathy by portraying Kim Ji-song of Maron Confectionery's accounting team, who faced the salty reality of being an informal hire.
In that broadcast, Ji-song, who had been on the fringes of the team, was invited to the team group messenger for the first time and, feeling happy to belong, even managed to reserve the team dinner venue, but due to subtle exclusion by team members she ultimately could not attend the dinner, creating sympathy. Later, Ji-song, who joined a trip celebrating the coin surge with Da-hae (played by Lee Sun-bin) and Eun-sang (played by Ra Mi-ran), hid Da-hae and Eun-sang's phones, which they used for coins during the trip, and was caught, leading to a fierce argument.
In particular, Ji-song was shown tearfully hurt by Eun-sang, who pretended not to know that Ji-song was a fixed-term contract employee at Maron Confectionery. But after the argument, Ji-song realized Eun-sang's sincere affection and reconciled, portraying a deep friendship that went beyond colleagues and completing the dramatic emotion. Ji-song also boarded the coin train, increasing curiosity about the future story.
Jo A-ram finely expressed through her eyes and facial expressions the internal anxiety of a character on the fringes of the team, the yearning to join others she had longed for, and the emotions swinging between hurt and regret. In particular, she freely shifted between forced smiles, hollow feelings, and erupting tears, depicting the complex psychology of a real office worker. She also raised dramatic immersion by showing different textures of tears—wounded tears, tears of reflection, and tears of reconciliation.
Meanwhile, 'To the Moon,' in which Jo A-ram appears, is a drama that depicts the hyperrealism survival story of three women from poor backgrounds who cannot survive on wages alone and jump into coin investment, and it airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 p.m. on MBC.
