MBC '2025 Chuseok special Idol Star Championships' (directed by Noh Seung-wook, Lee Min-ji, Kim Ik-hwan, hereafter "ISAC") will stage a heated one-on-one match to determine the strongest female ssireum wrestler.
The women's ssireum match will make a glamorous comeback after five years in part 1 of MBC's "2025 Idol Star Athletics Championships (ISAC)," which airs Monday the 6th at 5:10 p.m. Jun Hyun-moo, Lee Chang-seop, Lee Eun-ji and Jonathan will serve as MCs, and former champion and commentator Lee Tae-hyun, known as the "prince of the sandpit," will join to add expertise and entertainment. After top senior idol groups such as Apink, TWICE and WJSN, which previously attracted attention by competing in ssireum events, expectations are mounting over which new female idols will brighten the ssireum stage at "ISAC 2025."
A total of eight teams and 24 idol athletes will compete in this women's ssireum match, promising fierce battles on the road to the final. Lineups representing each team draw attention, from Hearts2Hearts' Jiu, Stella and Yeon to FIFTY FIFTY's Yewon, Hana and Athena, Billlie's Moon Sua, Suhyun and Tsuki, and tripleS' Jiu, Nien and Lin. In particular, Billlie's Moon Sua is said to have a family member who was a ssireum wrestler, sparking everyone's curiosity.
Commentator Lee Tae-hyun, who personally supervised the training, said contestants can be expected to display astonishing strength and surprising charm from their small frames. In fact, in ISAC's women's ssireum matches, the idol stars' expressions reportedly change 180 degrees and the atmosphere shifts dramatically. Not only do they actively use techniques learned during training in real matches, but once they grab the satba, intense psychological and strategic battles begin, creating a tense atmosphere on site. Meanwhile, one team reportedly asked their agency head for a car if they won the gold medal, turning the scene into a sea of laughter and piquing curiosity about which team it was when the show airs.
