Home Alone star Park Na-rae spent a day of tears and emotion with Jun Hyun-moo and Kian84 as they cleared her grandparents' house.
On the March 3 broadcast of the MBC variety show Home Alone, continuing from last week, Park Na-rae was shown sorting through her late grandparents' home with Jun Hyun-moo and Kian84, delivering a heavy emotional impact to viewers.
In the previous episode, Park Na-rae visited her grandparents' house, which she had been unable to touch for a long time. From the overgrown weeds in the yard to the photos and belongings left in the rooms, traces of time remained everywhere, making Park Na-rae's heart ache.
On that day, Jun Hyun-moo and Kian84 stepped in to help Park Na-rae, who had difficulty removing a family photo hanging on the wall. The photo contained the times Park Na-rae shared with her grandmother and grandfather, and Park Na-rae grew choked up as she recalled her memories with them once again.
The three then began a full-scale cleaning, tearing down wallpaper in a room where mold had formed from a leak. Having previously learned wallpapering techniques, Park Na-rae showed skills comparable to a professional as they organized the space. As if shedding a long-delayed emotional burden, Park Na-rae smiled with relief, saying "I feel so refreshed."
The amount of cleared items totaled a staggering 4 tons. After finishing the arduous and overwhelming work, the three watched the truck leave from the yard for a long time. Park Na-rae expressed gratitude, saying "I could never have done it without my brothers," and "They took the first step for me," to which Jun Hyun-moo playfully replied, "Is there a second step too?" drawing laughter.
Park Na-rae said, "It felt like having a wisdom tooth removed that I had been putting off," and added sincerely, "Even if it takes time, I hope people come little by little to fix things, and family members come to remember grandma and grandpa. I hope this place doesn't just disappear."
What deepened Park Na-rae's emotions was an unexpected gift from Jun Hyun-moo and Kian84. Kian84 bought an album by hand to make sorting photos easier for Park Na-rae, and true to his nickname "Muskia," Jun Hyun-moo presented Park Na-rae with a portrait he had drawn of her grandmother and grandfather. The painting included details such as a passport and airplane symbolizing the world trip the grandfather had dreamed of while alive, and a depiction of a chili field representing memories with the grandmother, touching viewers deeply.
Park Na-rae, with tears in her eyes, said, "This is the best one you've drawn. I love it," and Jun Hyun-moo, who was watching her, also could not hide his own emotional reaction. Jun Hyun-moo added, "It didn't feel like someone else's grandparents; I thought of my own past as I drew," giving even more emotional impact.
Toward the end of the broadcast, Jun Hyun-moo said, "Now Narae feels like my younger sister. We've shared many years, many hardships, many memories. We are family," and Park Na-rae reciprocated her deep affection, saying, "Hyun-moo oppa is the big brother who brings us together and understands us, and Kian oppa grumbles but takes good care of us."
