A shaman specialist actress, Kim Kyung-ae, revealed she had undergone two lung cancer surgeries.
After replacing breakfast with a cup of misutgaru in the early morning, Kim Kyung-ae had her hair styled at her regular salon, finished her makeup, and took the KTX to Jeonju. There she attended a resource-circulation fashion show event for environmental protection.
Kim Kyung-ae confessed, saying, "I'm grateful just to be able to take the stage," and revealed she had once been near death. She said, "I went for a health checkup and they said there was a small spot on the X-ray. It was stage 1 lung cancer. Because it was stage 1 they removed it and said everything would be cured after five years, but it recurred after four years and seven months. So I had another surgery. I had surgery twice and I'm living like this," she said calmly. She had the two surgeries starting at age 73.
After graduating from Chung-Ang University with a degree in theater and film, Kim Kyung-ae debuted as an exclusive actress for Shin Film. However, among beautiful actresses she suffered slights and cleaned the film company every dawn for two years. Then an opportunity came. Director Shin Sang-ok noticed her and gave her a chance, and playing a shaman in the drama "Tears of the Dragon" marked a turning point in her acting career.
After that, the label "shaman specialist actress" followed her, and she said, "I'm thankful that people remember me. If it hadn't been for shaman roles, I wouldn't have become known like this," expressing pride in the title "shaman specialist actress."
In the field and in daily life, she was often mistaken for a shaman rather than an actress.
She also recounted that her husband, a former businessman and director, was mistaken for a spy, was tortured and his health was ruined, and that she later became the family's breadwinner as head of the household. Currently she is preparing to appear in a play that her third son is writing and directing.
