RM is teaming up with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) for a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration.
On the 3rd, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art announced the special exhibition "RM x SFMOMA" in collaboration with BTS member RM. The exhibition will run from Oct. 2026 through Feb. 2027 and will present more than 200 works, including RM's personal collection and works owned by the museum. It will organically link the visual and conceptual contexts of both collections and allow a look into RM's artistic sensibility and collecting aesthetics. In particular, RM's direct participation as a curator is notable.
This exhibition is the first collaboration with a K-pop artist attempted since the founding of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The museum highly valued RM's deep collecting tastes and affection for modern art and proposed the project first. The exhibition will be presented as a joint curation by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and RM.
RM said, "We live in an era defined by boundaries. I hope this exhibition becomes a place to reflect on the boundaries between east and west, Korea and the United States, modern and contemporary, and the individual and the universal." He added, "There is no prescribed way to appreciate it, but I hope it becomes a small yet sturdy bridge for many people." Janet Bishop, senior curator representing the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, said, "Visitors will have an unprecedented opportunity to view RM's beautiful, contemplative paintings and sculptures alongside museum holdings and experience the conversation between them."
RM's collection includes many works by masters representing Korean contemporary art as well as prominent artists from around the world. Works from various countries and cultural spheres will be exhibited, and a significant number of the pieces to be shown publicly will be introduced to general audiences for the first time.
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is one of the largest modern art museums in the United States. It holds an outstanding collection in various fields, including painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, design and media art by world-renowned artists.
