Singer and actor IU won the female actor award for When Life Gives You Tangerines.
On the afternoon of the 2nd at Yeouido KBS Hall, the Seoul Drama Awards 2025 was held. Comedian Jang Doyoun and 2PM member and actor Ok Taecyeon hosted the event, and the winner of the drama institutional sector female actor award was IU, who delivered a powerful performance in the Netflix series When Life Gives You Tangerines.
Yeom Hye-ran, who had come on stage as the presenter, showed a choked-up reaction to IU's win, saying "I am happier that this person is receiving the award than if I were receiving it myself. I am so glad to be able to give it to her."
In When Life Gives You Tangerines, IU played two roles: Oh Ae-soon and her daughter Yang Geum-myeong. Meanwhile, Yeom Hye-ran played Ae-soon's mother, Jeon Gwang-rye, and previously shared a mother-daughter relationship onscreen with IU.
For that reason, Yeom Hye-ran showed as much joy as the recipient when IU received the female actor award. She personally presented the plaque and a bouquet to IU and shared an emotional embrace. Seeing this, MC Jang Doyoun said, "I'm all moved. This moment isn't IU. It's Ae-soon," showing an over-immersed reaction.
Standing at the microphone, IU said, "I am deeply grateful to the viewers who loved When Life Gives You Tangerines so much. I am also truly thankful to beloved writer Im Sang-chun and director Kim Won-seok and all the production staff and crew who were on set, and to teachers Kim Yong-rim and Na Moon-hee, senior Yeom Hye-ran and all the other seniors and colleagues here. It was a true honor to be able to be with you all."
She mentioned her fans, saying, "And I tend to lose my way or sense of direction, but my beloved fans, Yuena, always make sure I don't get lost, I'm so grateful," which drew a strong response.
She continued, "Finally, to my Ae-soon and my Geum-myeong, my beloved mother and my father who isn't exactly like Gwan-sik but is cute and lovable in his own way, our grandmother, my family, I love you so much. Being able to share When Life Gives You Tangerines is and will remain a pride for me and will continue to be an honor. Thank you, everyone," becoming emotional and adding to the poignancy.
