On the 2nd, OSEN reported that Netflix is preparing production of a new film in the Extraction universe, Extraction: Taigo, and actors Ma Dong-seok and Lee Jin-wook have joined the project.
The Extraction series is an action franchise starring Chris Hemsworth, produced and written by the Russo brothers, beginning with the first film in 2020 and with the 2023 sequel Extraction 2 released, it has established itself as one of Netflix's signature action brands.
With attention turning to production of Extraction 3, a work that continues the Extraction universe, Extraction: Taigo, is scheduled to be unveiled.
Extraction: Taigo centers on mercenary protagonist Ma Dong-seok embarking on a dangerous mission to rescue a kidnapped comrade. At the same time, Lee Jin-wook is expected to present a tense showdown with Ma Dong-seok.
Production will be jointly handled by Ma Dong-seok's production company Big Punch Pictures Co., Ltd., B&C, and Nova Film Co., Ltd. Director Lee Sang-yong, who has already shown a strong presence in the action genre with The Outlaws 2 and The Outlaws 3, will take the helm, the original concept is by Ma Dong-seok, and the screenplay is by actor and writer Cha Woo-jin.
Expectations are growing about how the Extraction universe will be expanded and what the action chemistry between Ma Dong-seok and Lee Jin-wook will be like.
Meanwhile, Extraction: Taigo is expected to begin full-scale filming after the Chuseok holiday.
