Comedian Kim Won-hoon of 'You Quiz on the Block' recalled difficult times and showed affection for his juniors.
On the 1st episode aired, tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block' (hereafter 'You Quiz') featured chef Lu Ching Lai, comedian Kim Won-hoon, and delivery worker Jeong Sang-bin.
Recently, delivery worker Jeong Sang-bin, who made headlines for reportedly saving 300 million won by age 26, appeared. Young and quick, he said he invested even his days off for his own work routine.
Jeong Sang-bin said, "When I first started it took 12 hours. Now it takes three to four hours." He said, "At first, regardless of delivery volume, it was a monthly salary of 1,900,000 won. I worked six days a week," and added, "When I moved to the next courier company I was paid per package. To increase the count I ran as much as possible. I learned the delivery areas on my days off. I would go left and right to get there faster."
With a stubborn determination for success, he said, "I ranked in the top 1 percent. Other drivers asked for know-how, so I told them," describing his current position. Jeong Sang-bin said, "First, I memorize all the road names. Then just by looking at the invoice I can tell which stop it is. If you memorize the addresses the work becomes much easier," and added, "The most I delivered to one house was 70 packages. It was idol CDs. They were Stray Kids," showing that he remembered a grateful customer.
Comedian Kim Won-hoon debuted as a KBS open recruitment comedian after being a trainee actor at an agency. Kim Won-hoon said, "When I was in high school I was an agency actor trainee for about a year. Back then I got compliments for being handsome," praising himself, then said, "After about a year I felt I had no talent. Seeing many stylish people and many who acted well, I felt it would be hard to find a niche market."
But life was not easy. 'Gag Concert,' once known as a sure path to success for comedians, lacked the buzz its fame suggested and was criticized for having no philosophy of comedy. To make matters worse, it failed to draw ratings. In the end, more than five years after his debut, Kim Won-hoon experienced the cancellation of 'Gag Concert.'
Kim Won-hoon said, "Depression came. There was a period when I stayed only at home. For about three to four months I would draw the curtains and just play games," and said, "Later I learned that my mother noticed when my car was in the underground parking lot. She said she was aware because she worried I might feel burdened or uncomfortable, or worry that my parents would notice me doing nothing," saying even his parents could not look back on him.
Now successful enough to give his parents a 10 million won windfall, he said he especially wants to pass on the greetings and affection he received from Yoo Jae-suk during his unknown days to his juniors. Kim Won-hoon said, "I have a Yoo Jae-suk syndrome. I want to do it, but when I force it, it doesn't work," and gave an awkward smile that drew laughter.
