Lu Ching Lai chef Yeom Min, son of Chinese cuisine master Lu Ching Lai from Yoo Quiz on the Block, spoke about the hardships of working with his father.
The episode of tvN's Yoo Quiz on the Block (hereafter Yoo Quiz) that aired on the 1st featured Chinese cuisine master Lu Ching Lai, who has 50 years of experience. Beside Lu Ching Lai was his son Yeom Min, a chef with 15 years of experience.
Yoo Jae-suk asked, "Your son, chef Yeom Min, is here too. How is your father?" Chef Yeom Min said, "Even when he just stands still he is as frightening as a tiger. In the kitchen we call him 'Chef,' not 'father,'" conveying the strict hierarchical order.
Yoo Jae-suk asked, "I heard your son was recently promoted to head chef. Do you have any tips for getting along well?" Chef Yeom Min said, "We work hard among ourselves in the kitchen, but sometimes Lu Ching Lai comes by and sets the tone. So I watch the staff's reactions and make fun of my father or things like that. That's how we build bonds," adding, "For example, when my father leaves I say, 'He left? Let's relax,'" which drew laughter.
